Travel Trailer vs Fifth Wheel

I'm looking at getting a trailer and was focusing on travel trailers. Then I got wondering why no one seems to pull fifth wheels with their Tacomas. Any insight?

I have not heard of anyone pulling a 5th wheel trailer with a taco.

 

If you want to pull a fifth wheeler, then the tacoma isn't right for you. It's not set up for that.

 

why havent you seen 5th wheels on tacos?? cuz a tacoma, along with a sonoma, s-10 and canyon ect are classified as "compact" trucks. And the suspension and drive assembaly are not near strong enough or powerfull enough so pull one.

Its been done. 5th wheels pull much easier (handling wise) than a traditional travel trailer. I'll have to find the thread of a ZR2 S10 pulling a decent size 5th wheel.

actually the owners manual talks about 5th wheel towing. it is fine, as long as you stay in its capactity.

Here are pics of many smaller trucks with a 5th wheel. obviously if you exceed its capacity then your a dumbass, but staying in its capacity 5th wheel towing is very safe.

 

I have seen quite a few 5th's that are with in the towing capacity of a Tacoma, so I don't think it is an issue of whether or not it can be done. There also seems to be a pretty large following that 5th wheel's are more "safe" and easier to handle then their travel trailer counterparts. From what I've found the 5th wheels that are tower are far least common then travel trailers. As well, for similar size and setup, they seem to be a bit more expensive. Perhaps these are the reasons?

 

i just dont know how well the composite bed will put up with the 5th wheel unless it was tied into the truck some other way?????
