Yesterday i drove up to Washington and picked up a 01 cr250. Its in pretty good shape for a year, riden but not to hard. Its a huge step up from the yz125 i had!

its kind of a bitch to kick over, anything i can do to help that? i hear kicking it slowly for the first couple kicks helps.

Those darn two strokes can be like that, but are fast as hell. My buddy rides one and he says it starts better with the throttle pinned when kicking. I told him he was going to flood it lol

You are supposed to do that after dropping it.

to the op, if the bike takes quite a few kicks to start even warm, I would do a top end. only about $150 and that way you will know everything is right. About it being hard to kick, you get used to it. I went from a kx 125 to a KTM 250 SX and it was hard to kick for the first few rides, but now its easy.

Nice bike, Im sure you will enjoy it a lot!

ive kicked my fair share of cr250s and being kinda small and a wimp, my best advice would to get a good stand or lean it against a wall so you can stand up and get a good set of boots, i have alpinestar tech 8s

im not quite sure it needs a topend yet, but the last 2 bikes i bought i always replace them just to make sure..

It started easy yestarday and this morning. I think its a combination of me being a small guy and it needs a new plug, the guy said he only rode it about 3 or 4 times in the last year(doesnt everyone say that tho? lol) and it does have good compression, but the plug is pretty bad lookin.

great looking bike. from what I understand 01 cr 250 is considered one of the best models. i have 96cr 250
mine usually starts on the first kick. this is how i start mine
grab the left grip lower the bike about waist level for sec. lift back up and it fires right up.

definitely their best motor. Its the one usually used to make cr250r AF's.

Oh and you guys need to try kicking a 500 2 stroke, now that is actually hard.

i think i figured out how to start it. after getting warmed up its pretty dang easy to start.

i think it needs a new top end tho.. im pretty sure it has all the symtoms of it, kind of rattley sounding, oil coming out of the exhaust and lack of power on the top end. agreed?

yea it should be done, i can tell the lack of power in it. I was chekcing out kits, and its crazy that you can go all the way to 440 big bore kit! that thing would probably hale!

sounds like its jetted a bit rich or your not riding it hard enough:D

but seriously, I would just do the top end. You will feel a lot better when riding.
