my truck was struggling!

Yesterday I went and picked up 2 yards of mulch, 1 in the bed and 1 in the trailer. I'm not sure how much the mulch weighs but my truck really seemed to be struggling on the hills. Kind of really makes me wonder if she can handle the 3.5k tow limit. Here's a pic, the mower in the way a bit, but you get the idea.

No worries, they were already shot. I would be curious to know the total weight I was carrying. The mulch wasn't dripping wet but it wasn't dry by any means.

 

Get a 5 gallon bucket, fill it with mulch. Hit the bathroom scale and then determine the whatever cubicness of the bucket. A few clicks of the calculator and Viola....there's your answer. Orrrrrrrr...You could wait for one of these Albert Edison smart college book learning folks we got here to help out too.

But this will depend on the mulch itself. After a heavy rain mulch can weigh in at about 1000 lbs per yard however in better conditions, the range of 600-800 lbs is a fairly accepted value in the landscape industry. Either way....too much.

 

pretty smart..5 gallons is 0.02yard^3.

a 3 cubic foot bag of mulch cant weigh more than 30-40lbs. which makes a load less than 400lbs...this is at a very scientific "regular" wetness.

but in Arizona, isn't it a DRY mulch? Do they have mulch? All I had was rocks and a cactus with a gold chain and tag around it. And no doors on the ABCO, what the hell? All the A/C was falling out into the parking lot!

so if 1 cubic foot weighs 40lbs, then 1 cubic yard would weigh in at 1080lbs. Given its moisture content, I'd say the it might have weighed a little bit more, also given the fact that the guy at the mulch place was very generous with what he gave me as they were heeping loads (insert joke here).
