Cops can't catch me in the skies. Uh, until they launch the helos...

I think I would worry more about traffic ripping off the wings.

Yea, insurance has got to be expensive on a $194,000 flying car.:D

I imagine it's only marginally more expensive than Light/Experimental Aircraft insurance.

Which is to say, a great deal more than your standard auto liability. :(

I have a feeling that this vehicle is actually better constructed than most Light Aircraft.

A light aircraft rating is for any aircraft under 1200 lbs. The Transition was given an exemption by the FAA for a MTOW (Maximum Takeoff Weight) of 1430 lbs. This is because the Transition has to include safety features required for motor vehicles (crumple zones, airbags, etc.).

Most Light Sport Aircraft do not have these features. In fact, anyone who has flown small aircraft know that sometimes they are nothing more than sheet metal wrapped around a 4-cylinder engine and some seats, with giant gas tanks attached. Not exactly a model of safe construction.

I'm sure it's just as inherently stable as a Piper. Plus, it's got airbags!

One of the things you have to learn in order to obtain a Sport Pilot's License (minimum necessary for this vehicle) is how to check your control surfaces and systems before takeoff.

The major hindrance I can foresee is the inability to get clearance in major metropolitan areas surrounded by Class B airspace. It doesn't make a helluva lot of sense to have a flying car when you have to drive 30 miles to get outside the restriction area to take off.
