Screw in Tire... Should I plug this?!?!?!

Got in the truck this AM noticed the low tire pressure light was on. Found a screw in the tire but the tire doesnt look low yet. Is this too close to the side wall to plug??? It is in between the treads and the tire only has 3000 miles on it.

 

I would plug and go. Screw in the side = new tire

 

I was thinking plug too... Hopefully I dont have to drive for work today and it holds air till tonight.

 

Have it PATCHED from the inside. Air can still escape from the hole and work it's way between the plys and then you have a seperation. The belts will seperate and by the time you feel "Thump Thump"...KABOOM! A patch on the inside will keep that from happening. Have it dismounted and professionally done...and please, please....PAAAAALEEEZE! If you've used "Fix-a-Flat" or similar, let the tech know. He'll/She'll thank you.

 

Plug it all the way,you can get a decent kit from walmart or some Auto place I like the T handle one,make sure you punch through the tire layers till your inside the tire cavity with the rasp looking punch in the kit before putting in the plug w/glue. Ive had tires that Ive put at least 5 plugs into never a leak or problem at all,from your picture yours is a easy plugger for sure

 

I was also thinnking if I should have the spare and this this tire switched around beings there is hardly any miles on them. Then just have the tire with the plug in it as my spare and run the good one everyday.. Or is this just a waste of my time and $$$???

 

Just have it plugged. My local shop does it for $5. I'm running with a plug in two tires. Never had a problem.

 

You should have it PATCHED not plugged. Patches will last the life of the tire, but plugs can leak and sometimes don't last very long. Like TicTacOma said, have it professionally patched.

This happened to me yesterday. Took it to Firestone. 1/2 hour later it was done. Total was $50 to have the tire patched from the inside and rotation.

On a side note, Firestone had lifetime alignment on sale for $150 this month instead of $200.

 

Which shop do you go to? I need to get one of the Sami's tires plugged.

 

It's sonora. It's on valley between locust and alder on the south side. Super cheap rates. Nice people. Really knowledgeable too.

 

get it patched. ive benn running a patch for close to 2 years now

 

1/2" from the shoulder/edge of tread to the other shoulder is the place for plugs. It looks like you're fine. Plug, trim excess, spray with soapy water to make sure it holds air, and you're golden. Don't use 2 plugs unless it's just to get to a new tire.
Shoulder and sidewall are a no-go zone. Shoulder flexes too much to work, and sidewall=blowout.
