Front diff for $200 that should be good deal, what ratio?
Also you need to answer what year is your truck? Do you have VSC?
If you are 09+ with vsc you probably going to need new main computer and more electronics.

Ok it may be good deal, but you should make sure it is the same ratio as your truck. What ratio is your truck ?

Ok so you need to make sure the front diff you are planning to buy is 3.73
there are two OEM ratios in front diff

    4.10
    3.73
Unless you goign to get rear changed to 4.10 while they installing ARB. :)

For what you are looking to spend I could probably find you a built trail rig with a trailer. It always nice to think of the ways things could be but in real life the money, labor and problems wouldn't be worth it to 99% of the wheeling community.

OK. Lets get you some info you can use. First off, swapping these new trucks from prerunner to 4wd without doing a sas is the biggest pain in the ass.

You need the list that was put together above, plus the engine cpu's and the tranny cpu's or your going to have codes everywhere. Not only that, you will most likely need to get the instrument cluster as well for the information it contains about speed going back to the engine control unit.

Your best bet is to sell the truck and get a 4wd OR, you can do a solid axle swap on it and you can use what ever transfer case you want. It's been done already on RockSolidToys.

This big beast used to be a prerunner. Now it's one hell of a 4wd.

If this is your daily driver I would just get a 4wd truck that you can take to medium trails and not worry about all the headaches associated with doing a swap. And this is coming from someone who does them. If you really want a swap and daily drive your truck it can be done if it's done right. I daily drive this truck 120 miles every day.

Do some research and then do some more. Come on over to RockSolidToys and ask all the questions you want. They will be more than happy to help you.

I don't mean to be a dick but....Your wrong on your red marks as far as a 4wd cpu and such if he is going to use the front diff and axle's and Transfer case from an '05+ taco. There are no manual hubs yet for these trucks as far as I know and without those he's stuck with the add system. That system is dependent upon three main computers to tell it to work. The engine control cpu, the tranmission cpu and the 4wd cpu. With out those he'll be one heavy prerunner. If he is an '09+ Taco he is really in a world of hurt because of he added traction controls that must work in sync with the 4wd cpu and tranny cpu.

Again.....Your also wrong about using a manual transfer case. If you have a 4wd IFS and try to pt a manual transfer case in it and try to get the add to work without some kind of switch it won't work. Those front hubs need information to tell it it's ok to engage. With out that info he will be once again, a heavy prerunner

Yeah... It really wasn't by choice that I do though. My '08 ford stupid duty blew the turbo. So I'm driving this every day. I put the MTR's back on for the daily treks because the Iroks just wouldn't hold up.

Thanks for the compliments as well. I try to make my threads as informative as possible so that others may benefit from what I've learned.

I really appreciate the response! After reading up on this thread, it does sound like more of a p.i.t.a. opposed to hopes and dreams of what is feasable but definitely alot of work that will leave me frustrated just doing the swap to 4wd. Maybe I'll just hang onto my truck for a bit longer and get into a 05+ dc 4wd and do it the easy way haha. My girlfriend is tired of hearing about 4wd'ing my current truck and says just to get a 22re trail truck and shut up lol :burnrubber:

Ill definitely be keeping RST in mind when I have 4wd for my needs!

I do know some people on the east coast that I have worked with doing swaps on late model 4runners. They are the same as the Taco, and I'm am consulting with another taco in NJ.

I looked at the new people on the board but didn't see yours. Maybe i just missed it.

If you go back and reread my post I stated that if you use a manual T case you are going to have to use some kind of switch the activate your front diff. You can put one in your self once you know what wires to use. However, if you use the OEM tcase your gonna need all of that stuff.

I don't care much for the options of a manual tcase in the prerunners except for the FJ Cruiser T Case and the upgraded Marlin Lefty. Seen way too many lefty's blow up under FJ Cruisers for my comfort.

Sounds like a good choice if you use the Marlin Lefty. Just be careful in the snow with it. Thats when people tend to break things. I live in Huntington Beach so when you get ready to do it let me know.

    Here is a thread of a 4.7 liter 4Runner with a lefty.
