I haven't quite decided what I wanted to do for rock lights either.

Just some suggestions of stuff I have seen and heard about though:

    http://www.amazon.com/Vision-HIL-ST..._2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1279853842&sr=1-2

I was actually thinking of building something myself with http://www.oznium.com/prewired-superflux
http://www.oznium.com/prewired-superflux/action/page6 has some pics of someone that used these. On page 7, he says he used 14, which looks plenty bright in pure dark, and not too bad in half dark. On page 2, you can see what a single light would look like from about the top of the fender (mounted on a mirror pointing down on a car). Maybe 4 per wheel would be about right for about half the price of the Amazon one.

Then there's always the ol fall back of cheap walmart type lights, but I think with the benefit of power usage and durability, led is really the way to go if doing it today.
