All good information! I am def. set on 15' rims. I just really like the way 15'' wheels look on the 1st gens. I do see what you mean by the island look. Not my style, but I can see how a 10'' wide rim can cause that look.
    Thanks guys!:D

    Adam,

For your skids did you do your normal paint job, rattle can satin, and rustoleum reddish primer? Or did you use some bedliner? I'm going to order some budbuilt tomorrow but don't want to powder coat.

Yep. Red primer, Rustoleum satin. Bed liner isn't a good idea on skids IMO. Its still going to scratch and bedliner just peels off in sheets after that and looks nasty.

nut much to update. been working like a dog for several weeks now and have had zero time to mess with the truck. Probably not a bad thing since it's been really cold. As soon as it warms up I'll hopefully be through with my stupid deadline at work and I can tackle all the little maintenance crap before Moab in June.

    My pre-moab checklist is:

    1) modify my bed rack a little and have it powder coated.
    2) add a new rear crossmember and relocate rear shocks
    3) u-bolt flip
    4) install rear spring relocation plates (need to move the axle back about 1")
    5) trim front fenders/firewall a little to clear the 33's at full stuff
    6) if time allows.....clean up some wiring and get all my lights finished up.

But....I did find some time to tackle a huge job the other day and removed all my stickers. :) Well not all of them but almost all of them. Will be removing the TRD bedside decals soon too. Have something else in mind to take their place. I'm liking the cleaner look without the stickers these days.

are you going to stay with the shocks you have now or are you gonna swap them for longer ones when you do the flip?

If done right, he could get the same travel as a 10'' shock mounted in the stock location out of his 8'' OME ones.

Yep that's the plan. Try to use the OME shocks. Should work out fine. Unless I can find a deal on some discontinued Bilstein 5150s. :spy:

adam, you mentioned how bed liner was a bad idea on skids because it gets rubbed off and comes off in sheets...so woud you recommend against bed liner on a plate bumper as well, and just got with spray paint? Or the majority of the plate bumper sees less abuse than skids do so bed liner works fine?

It's personal opinion but I don't like bedliner on anything that contacts the rocks. So for me, I wouldn't use it on bumpers either. I don't like the look of it first off. Secondly, is the peeling. I just think its looks nasty when it gets scratched. To me its much easier to touch up paint than bed liner and have it look good.

Clearly powder coat is the best option but its still going to get scratched and a little paint now and then is about as good as you can do unless you have it blasted and re-coated every few years.

Are you talking about something like these 80_1234156912_9eb2deddf1002fe473040e42f4987a1b2c899080.jpg

I installed plates like those on my truck to center the axle the wheel wells. It seems like the OME leaf packs change the position of the axle in the wheel wells.

Sir, you have a nasty truck, I've seen your bed racks and those are great too. I have a question about your dakars.. Did you have to use shims or a cb drop with them? I bought a set used off ttora and i'd rather install one than twice hah

    nasty in a good way....right? :)

Shims are not necessary. I'm not using any. I installed a CB drop and it made vibes worse so I took it out. Figured out the vibes were just my tires.
