I think he meant OME as in Old Man Emu brand.

That one belongs to a friend, but it's a first gen Mombasa tent. I've seen them used for around $500

Thanks. I'm contemplating a redesign on my bedrack. I just picked up a Snugtop topper so I'll either be removing the rack and just using it when I use the RTT. Or I'll be redesigning how it mounts so that I can still use it for two layer storage in the bed when the topper is on. Or......I might change it up to work as a roofrack on top of the topper. But I don't like the idea of putting the weight up that high.

    Decisions.....decisions.

Wheels have actually held up pretty well. there are a few small chips but those all showed up on a long overland trip of nearly 1000 miles on dirt. Can't really complain about that.

I don't know of any weight limit on the tent itself. It's more a question of how it's mounted and how you're spreading the load. If it's mounted to a roof rack or something like that you would probably want multiple load bars supporting it to spread the load and it should be fine.

I recommend looking at the Eezi-Awn tents from http://www.equipt1.com/ EQUIPT EXPEDITION OUTFITTERS. The Eezi-Awn is the best tent on the market and they also have a model that is larger than most of the other ones that would fit a family much better. I've been looking at that one myself since my wife and 4 kids like to camp with me.

    Updates.

Just picked up a Snugtop XTR top on Saturday and got it on the truck. Overall it is in great shape. I found it used on a local classifieds website. I've been watching for a good deal on a used top for the past year. I have liked the XTR because of the clean lines and some the other features, but the cheapest I had ever seen one used was ~$750. Even then it was always the wrong color. Not many Mystic Gold Doublecab Tacomas out there I guess, so I'd be looking and a few hundred to have it repainted too which would put it over $1000 all said and done. Well, a couple weeks ago one showed up in local classifieds (but was still 3 hours away). Was the right color too. The price had me scratching my head a little. Was listed at $300. I thought it's either a peice of junk or a misprint. Called on it and talked the guy down to $270. A friend of mine does a bit of work in the area where it was located and he was kind enough to pick it up for me when he went up there last week. Overall it's is very good shape. A few dings but nothing unexpected from a nearly 10 year old used top. Really pleased with the deal. Color is almost dead on.
No signs of leaks. It has the third brake light, interior dome light, fold down front window. So most if not all the options available for it.

Sorry. All I have it crappy phone pics for now.

They're useable. i'm still trying to find out how heavy a load can be up there. But it sounds like I could mount my tent no problem.

Looks like ~200lb capacity on the top of the shell. Not bad but I might need to do a mod or two to really handle the tent up there.

Should be picking up a set of OME D6XL AAL's from Cruiser Outfitters this week. Should go a LONG way to handling loads much better. Then I can start thinking about a rear swing away tire-carrier.

Edit: OH! and I'll be painting the bars BLACK on top of the shell. Gray is lame. :)
