02 TRD build

I did a lot of research on here and asked a lot of questions (I'm sure I got pretty annoying), but thanks to everyone who answered my questions!

My 02 TRD started with a Magnaflow exhaust, K&N COI, and the bedrails. I think that was pretty much it. I used Bilstein 5100's on all four corners with +2" rear shackles in the rear and OME 881 coils with the 5100's set at 1" in the front. I painted my wheels black using Rustoleum wheel paint. And finally I threw in a UWS toolbox.

It has been together for about a week now and I love the setup. The front is a little stiffer than stock but soaks up bumps and dips better. I tried to level it out with this setup, but it sits a little high in the rear (hopefully it'll settle out). The toolbox fits perfect with about half an inch from the fenders. It is TBS-60 model number.

If anyone has any questions about anything I did, feel free to ask, I'm due to repaying the favor of all the questions I asked! I don't have much before pics, but you get the idea.

 

Im considering a similar kit. What did the lift cost said and done? How stiff is the ride?

 

All four 5100's cost $310 shipped, the coils were $157, and the shackles were $90. I used the Autozone spring compressor which they charge $50 and refund it all when you return it. So the lift cost me about $640 with shipping and doing everything myself. That includes and alignment from Les Schwab too.

The ride is great. I call it stiffer but smoother. Turning into driveways doesn't bottom out the front end anymore and speed bumps are a lot smoother. This could be a combination of my stock suspension getting worn out and higher quality after market shocks.

 

Does the rear end skip or chatter if you go over some bumpy asphalt on an exit or on ramp? My friend had this problem

 

I haven't noticed that problem. I remember it happening a little on my stock suspension if I was turning and went over rough terrain or a bump. I blamed it on the rear end being really light.

I've got Bilsteins and OME 881s also. You will get used to the stiffer ride on the road. When I go down dirt roads/gravel, it's like a pillow though.

I have my Bilsteins set at 0" though.

Did you install a front diff drop kit?

 

Yeah I did the diff drop because I ordered it just in case. After I installed it I was reading on different sites that people don't like them because they increase the angle on the rear U joint on the diff. The diff drop didn't do too much, but the fins on the CV boots aren't touching.

 

You will be happy you did order the diff kit. You can always make some carrier bearing spacers to fix the u joint angle.

 

One thing I forgot to mention about my build is my Magnaflow exhaust routes differently that the stock exhaust, so no modification was required to install the +2" shackles. So if someone is looking for an exhaust that fits extended shackles, the Magnaflow does fit. I've had the exhaust on for 3.5 years now and am still pleased with performance, sound, and mpg gains of it and the COI.

 

Nice man i like i really like the stance of your truck & i think the white with black flares is the best color. i cant wait to get my 5100's put on this week.
