Based on what Chris @Redneck92 said earlier, do we know for sure that Timken is not OEM for this application.

I have to agree with what Steve @woodnick is saying, a Timken bearing should not have failed so quickly. There seems to be more going on. I suppose it could be incorrect installation but can't be certain.

Could it be the axle tube or the shaft?

 

i seriously doubt the housing is bent. Or axle shaft. But its always possible, more so the shaft then the housing. not sure how you'd check that just to eliminate it.

 

Both shops that have worked on it have said the axle shaft is not bent.

Must have been just a bad install. idk how they go in so no idea if thats easy or hard to fuck up. I would think hard to fuck up though...

 

Yeah, I don't kno either but the reason I brought this up in this thread is because a lot of very knowledgeable and experienced guys visit here. Maybe someone will have some ideas or suggestions.

Koyo or nsk should be oem, more than likely koyo. But if you buy a timken more than likely it is going to be a koyo bearing made in Japan and not in the US. A bent housing is possible, common on the older toy housings hadn't heard much about the later model housing bending.

Sir, your truck is badass and beautiful. I plan on going over this thread and doing a lot of the mods you have done to my truck once I get another Daily Driver.
As for now, my truck is a daily driver and will be my only for a long while, so I gots to sadly keep offloading an occasional thing.

So i asked my cousin if he would want to go on a trip one day like you guys do and well he does, but doesn't have a truck. Wouldnt it be a little risky to go with just one vehicle.

 

yes, one of the underlying things about ours is teamwork. We rely on eachother heavily. But not so heavily we can't do it on our own but enough that it is great to know when shit hits the fan you have a few extra hands ready to help. Or they might have the one tool you don't. Or part.

That said, i went out with my brother and still do all the time with just my truck and us and barely a tool in the thing. Got in PLENTY of trouble and have many fond adventures with him. Not sure id do something to the degree we do now by myself. Least not some of the trails. But a lot of it id be fine doing alone. Still more fun with more people and rigs.

 

that what i thought but he doesn't think it will be fun with two trucks. i just need him to look at tacomaworld everyday...then he would be hooked haha.
