Do you use the roof rack?

No, I have never used it. I just liked the looks of a roof rack.

I hate to say it, but I honestly don't trust it. It is attached to the thin roof sheet metal with 3 sheet metal screws at each corner. I am actually more concerned about uplift than weight. I can see something like a kayak or tall load with lots of wind resistance just ripping it out. Maybe I am overly concerned about it.

If I remember correctly the 4-runner rack sits on a longer base that will spread the load over a larger area and also will be able to be anchored better for the uplift concern.

I also have a Ford Explorer, and looking at it I think if I get the chance to do it again I would get an Explorer Sport Track roof rack from a junk yard. It looks to me like that will be a good option, other than the 4-runner rack.

Ah, it's so refreshing to see a fellow 02 Silver Taco. Truck looks great. Really digging the fender flares and the smoked lights. I have a 02 Taco myself (if you have a chance have a look at my build thread, in my sig) and have been actively pursuing some upgrades for it. Smoked lights and fender flares (hydrodipped I think) are being highly considered.

Sah to hear that it doesnt get any daily love though, get it out more!

    :burnrubber:

Total cost of all repairs/part replacements (other than oil changes, tires, brake pads and wiper blades) over 100,000 miles and 12 years = $84
Average repair cost to run my truck is $0.00084/mile.

Now I am due for time belt, water pump, spark plugs (overdue - still the originals ), and while I am there will also replace radiator hoses and thermostat.

Turned 100,000 during an awesome 4th of July trip with the family. Perfect.

The current one was made by TheTupper. The rest, I don't even remember - I had several free programs that I played with when I installed Linux on my computer.

Said good bye to the trusty 2002 Tacoma. It was almost like selling a child, but it was time to move on. I will however stick around here since I stayed in the same family.

Just curious, what did you end up getting for the truck you traded in? I just sold my 2013 tacoma a got a 2003 DCSB silver tacoma. I just couldnt get the 1st gen off my mind.

Do you like having a full size truck more?

I got $9,000 for the trade. It is actually almost unbelievable. I paid $19,500± for the truck 16 years ago. Still about 50% of the original value after 16 years. That's unheard of. The dealer has it advertised for $10,999 so retail to retail it is about 56%.

I do miss the 1st Gen. I got the Tundra because I changed jobs and my new employer pays my truck payment and my gas, so it is a win-win for me. Otherwise I would have kept the 1st gen for ever.

@Boerseun Your truck looks sharp man! I haven't updated my profile photos yet, but I got black door handles, changed the antenna, replaced the side mirrors, replaced the rear bumper (just this past weekend), replaced the front grille, replaced the tail lights and third brake light, replaced the license plate bulbs with LEDs, replaced the signal and side marker lenses to (clear) ones, just ordered the front bumper caps (primed), removed the step bars all together, and I'm getting the bull bar powder coated in a subtle black matte finish. Looking at your truck reaffirmed the transformation I want to achieve when it's all said and done. :hattip:I've been customizing it for 2 months while getting repairs (maintenance) and it's been a true labor of love. Posting updated pics soon.
