Hey everybody been snooping on here for a few months figured I'd start posting about my build. I bought my 1997 Tacoma 2.7l, 5 speed extended cab with 189,000 miles back in June. It still gets over 25 mpg. I bought it for my DD and for my trail truck. My Silverado is just to big for most of the trails I want to go on and the 10 mpg is a little bit annoying. I picked the Tacoma up for 2k it was a work truck that was used mostly for service calls and estimates. It sustained some hail damage and had a few scratches here and there so I figured I would fix them before I painted it. Well enough typing here's some pics of how it sits now.

First things first have to get the work decals off. A little heat and a plastic scraper worked just fine.

Next time to fix the body damage.

There was some rust in the bed but instead of fixing it the right way they just put a mesh screen and some bondo to fix it. So I cut out the old and welded in a piece of metal. A lot stronger then mesh and bondo.

Its in paint right now. Should be done some time this week. Nothing fancy just went with Black after all its my daily driver and trail truck.

    Future plans include:
    OME Lift
    265/75R16 BFG's
    ARB winch bumper
some sort of rear tire carrier bumper
    Sliders
    Snorkel
    ETC ETC ETC.

All in All I'm calling this Project "mini me" I'm going to make it similar looking to my Silverado.

It really wasn't that hard to do. I was about to pay some one to do it cause it seemed a little to hard to do. But just take your time and it will be good. I got the Stud gun, puller, and studs from harbor freight for about a 100 bucks and all the other stuff for about the same. I'll probably go with A/T's I have them on my Silverado and love them but have been wanting to try out the M/t's but heard they don't do as well in the snow.

Ok got it back from paint today. It looks like a totally different truck, I'm happy with the results for it being a Maaco paint job.

After taxes it was 984. I had them do the door jams so that was an extra 100 and then since it was a truck/suv that was a i think 200. It wasnt their cheapest paint job but it wasnt the most expensive. Its my DD/trail truck so it should hold up just fine for what i plan on using it for.

So I went down to Ohio this past weekend to pick up the Yota and grab some other things and my ATV. I gotta say I am truly impressed with this truck. For a 2.7l and about 700lbs loaded in the truck (ATV + gear) It handled and drove great couldn't even tell there was anything in the truck and I still averaged 21 mpg. This is going to be a great Expedition Vehicle :)

Look what Santa just brought me :) Can't wait to see these on my truck. This build is moving slower then I would hope but at least it's moving haha.

Now should I paint them Gloss black? Maybe a different color? Or leave them how they are? I kind of like them how they are but I also like the idea of painting them a different accent color. what's ya'lls opinion?

Dang dude I can't wait to see these on the truck. I love your truck especially after that new paint job. I really need to get a new paint job on mine except more mods keep getting in the way. Anyways I would probably paint them gloss black but its your truck.
