As for steering components, I heard about these guys through Pirate. They make some really nice stuff, and I tend to go for the manufacturers that provide a lot of information/data/tech on their products. The fact that they are straight out of Casper, WY seals the deal for me. :luvya:

All their stuff looks pretty flexible/customizable. Looks like they fairly small and have decent tech support, I'll bet they would do some custom work for you if you need it.

So I'm still doing a bunch of studying on turbos but it's insane how many factors are involved and the sheer amount of info/tech needed to understand this stuff. I'm still a bit lost on which factors are going to affect certain characteristics. Some of the better info was here -

I've been reading the tech section on Garrett's site ad nauseam and doing the associated homework

    http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/turbo_tech_expert

And I found a nice calculator from Borg Warner. I played with a few of the numbers and if I'm looking at this correctly, it seems not the EFR 6258 or the 6758 is going to be a good fit as I previously thought, but the 7163.

Here's the link with the numbers I put in
    http://www.turbos.bwauto.com/afterm...wts=400&pt6_wd=83&pt6_wd2=74&pt6_wrsin=92044&

    And here's the turbo
    http://www.full-race.com/store/turbos/borgwarner-efr/borgwarner-efr-7163-turbo.html

What way would I need to mess with the numbers more to get the most out of the setup? Like say I take it up to 8000 RPM, is the turbo just going to need to crank open the wastegate to keep it in the limits of the compressor map? Any helpful links that you guys could recommend?

Side notes- I entered 2000ft elevation as a median between sea level and the 4000ish ft elevations of several areas of Wyoming. My camshafts are meant for 10-25lbs of boost and the valve train is supposedly rated for up to 10k rpms

    Paging Monte. :luvya:

    ...too much shit to list.
Just pick a turbo and add fuel till it stops pinging.
The rest is all prayer, moon alignment, and alimony checks.

Ha! Well no alimony from me. Ex pays ME child support. (It's a laughable $67 a month but it's the principle of the matter.)

Well guys, thanks for everything over the years. But unfortunately my build will come to a close today. It's been real and it's been fun, but it's time to burn the garage to the ground. :( I went to the garage with the propane torch and maybe some gasoline if nobody hears back from me for awhile. :bananadead:

Okay so first off, then wate gate doesn't just crack open. It goes fully open at super high rpms. Remeber the waste gate is what allows the exhaust to bypass the turbo to prevent over boosting.

Using an electronic boost controller is best at this as they will hold the waste gate closed till the last second then open it and start regulating. This increases spool time a tad vs a mechanical controller.

Having a divorced or undivorced waste gate will change things a bit too. But seeing as the theme of this build is divorced, get that :p it's a shit load louder though.

Getting the right sized wastegate will help prevent boost creep at upper rpms. Your just a 4 banger so pretty easy to get. 46-50mm will be more then enough.

I have to read the rest give me a minute.

Ha I just remember you were doing a built in wastegate. Never mind about the divorced wastegate

The new turbo looks fine to me as well. Wish you could get the A/R ratio down on the exhaust though to like .68 or in the .70s.

This turbo will be a higher rpm turbo then the other one.

The 6758 runs a .64 ratio T25. The smallest option for the 7163 is an .80 twin scroll T4. The 6758 seems ok up to the 6000rpm mark. If the improvement in spool time is negligible, I'm assuming I'm better off with the wider powerband.

This one is pretty much the same thing but with boost levels different in the first 4 columns. There's a drop down menu over the compressor maps to compare.
