2003 D-cab 4x4 Superchaged Mid-Travel

The boxes of suspension components are starting to come in the mail so ill catch you up on my build so far. I bought the truck used in 2008 with 74k miles on it.

supercharger

I loved my new truck and givin my past with jeeps i was really happy on how well it performed off road, but wanted a little more power so ended up installing the trd supercharger on it after my gf gave it to me as a christmas present...i know sick right? well i thought it would be a bolt on and go kinda part but, no, not so much. So I had to pussy foot it around until the underdog racing 7th injector kit came and i made my first attempts at tuning. got an innovative programmer with a single stream wide band 02 sensor, a obdII reader that plugged into my mac that needed windows to run so bought a parallels program so i could use my macbook to tune the truck. Luckily gadget with urd was a big help and had a really good baseline maps for fuel and timing to at least have the truck drivable. For 2 years or so i drove and fine tuned to weather changes and replaced spark plugs and 02 sensors after running rich while I learned to tune....still don't fully know what i'm doing but the ping is pretty much all gone and the fuel is spot on. (sorry no pics yet) other then some pictures i took of the stock hose and cable routing to make sure everything went back to stock if it didn't work out.

other mods

I put a bac flip tonneau cover and plastic bed liner on the truck after using a cheap rattle can spray bed liner to make sure the plastic one didn't scratch off the paint inside the bed. still not happy wondering how much water hides out underneath that plastic piece of shit and i take it out twice a year and re-coat with the rattle can. I did the grey wire mod and deckplate mod that I learned on tacoma world while I was creepin the threads as an outsider, and I did a seafoam treatment which really made a big difference, like i said before i ran rich with the supercharger for a while so it needed to be done and it took care of any pinging i still had after tuning. but it hydrolocked the charger for a second and snapped the belt but no long term damage, just a belt. (sorry no pics of all this yet either, ill take some tomorrow to prove where im at) but as of right now if i just stomp on it, it will roast a single back tire (lol) for first gear entirely. kinda wish it had a limited slip but i love having the locker back there especially after the grey wire mod.

time to lift!

well we had a hurricane on the east coast last year that i wanted to investigate and i got stuck pretty bad while exploring and had to put a call out to a few friends to come and yank me out and was finally pushed to pull the trigger on the lift and get a bit more meat in the wheel wells.

and the lift is here

so i found a set of used king coil overs and although it takes away from the wow factor when i got them, being their kinda dirty, i still couldn't complain with the price i got em for and as of now they don't seem to have any leaks or issues. I am going to pull the coils off and clean the shock up just to make myself feel a little better. Once I do that I'll be able to see if they're still charged with nitrogen. Sending them out to be rebuilt is almost 100 bucks each so hopefully they're good to go. I ordered almost everything else from toytec: light racing upper control arms, front diff drop kit, 2" shackles for the rear, bilstein 5150 piggy back shocks, an extended rear brake line and exhaust hanger. wheels and tires I ordered from performance plus tire. ultra 164 in flat black 16x8 with 285 75 16 bfg mud terrain km2's. and i got a master set of urethane bushings from energy suspension. yea they'll probably end up squeaking on me but i have access to a lift at any time so hopefully i can treat that with something in a spray can instead of disassembling all the time. next weekend was my plan to get this all started but i forgot about st. patty's day we'll see what happens but having everything sitting there is kinda eating at me.

I appreciate it but i must say it was kinda dumb to go out without even another all season tire wearing truck. i wouldn't have got so buried if i could've been yanked before the axles bottomed out. if u see running water in sand its safe to say the sand is soupy and wont hold up a truck...lesson learned. Well everything was slick and we ended up using a shovel and an off road jack tied to a tree to pull it out one inch at a time, in the rain, with no boots lol

pictures

so i started today to install my parts, i haven't received my upper control arms yet, nor did i get my extended rear brake line so no taller now then before but i got some of the poly bushings in and i put in the diff drop which as of right now i hate. my skids fit all sloppy with the drop in and if aftermarket skids don't fit with the drop kit in then i'll just end up taking that out. the poly bushings in the steering rack have actually made a positive difference i can feel in the wheel. i also soaked some bolts with parts blaster and broke them free and tightened back up to make the install quicker when i can finally get started.

front is lifted

I installed my front end lift parts today (king coilovers and spc upper control arms). pretty straight forward but i had no luck with a single cotter pin and ended up busting a punch trying to get them out. Ball joint press gave me a hard time too but all worth it. looks really cool in the wheel wells but right now my truck looks like an over loaded roller skate (with no rear lift installed). my wheels and tires are finally on their way too.

rear lift

sorry about the delay, tuesday i installed my rear lift parts, first thing you should do back here is drop the spare out of the way, makes life so much better. i installed toytec shackles for the meantime (ill get dakars once my bank account heals) THE SHACKLES DON'T FIT STOCK LEAFS AND BUSHINGS! so a little grinding of the bushing and sleeve is in order to get it to work. i didn't put new bushings in there because i plan on getting rid of them anyway.i then installed urethane bushings for the upper side of the rear spring mount, extended brake line and a pair of bilstien 5150's with the piggyback reservoirs. the truck rides so much better i was afraid of my front lift parts with all the noise while i drove it with just a front lift.
wednesday i got it aligned, sorta, he couldn't break the lower control arm bolts loose so just made the adjustments via the upper control arms, he said its close but not perfect (but i still get to pay full price, bullshit). rides even nicer. ill put it back on the lift and take a torch to the nuts and get them off, god i cant believe people like that get paid to work in shops and i do this for fun and could run circles around them. i just don't have the tools to properly align my wheels.
friday i got my tracking numbers for my wheels and tires, so once they are in i'll take pictures of the finished product. later today ill post some cell phone pics of the rear lift install process. sorry about all the cell phone lift pictures in this thread i just don't want to touch my actual camera with greasy hands.

Thanks man, yea it's in the early stages, your truck is awesome and probably my ultimate goal. Now I have a bunch of questions. How do the fiberglass fenders work out with a mid travel set up any spacers any issues in tight trails and when you put the smaller pully on the sc did u need much more tuning? Thanks I'm pretty happy with how my truck is coming out. Not sure on how much tunning extra goes into the pulley because I did all the URD stuff at the same time.

Im not running any spacers on the front currently and my tires fill the fender OK but I'm planning on jumping up in tire size soon. The glass will allow me to run a bigger tire and stay as low as possible. I do have scratches on the fenders, but not from trees themselves just from branches sticking out.
