That's what I keep telling myself about 35s. But I thought a bit of egging on might be in order. :D

Tundra cvs would hold the 37s fine. Be great with 35s. But then the weak point becomes the front diff...and replacing that sucks compared to a cv..

Amen to that. .. With that said I still want to go to 37s. Wonder after the LT installation how much more I would have to tub.

then to regear again... shit.. stick to the 35s for a while

Really like the 1st gen on 37s that was featured on toyota 4wd owner.

Got me thinking going to a flat bed. Getting rid of most of my expo gear and just building a mild rock crawler.

    List would be

    regearing
    37s
    flatbed
    different rear suspension

    thoughts?

Same basic shit everybody else had 5 years ago.
Flat bed on a DC looks great. I think once I retire and the Tacoma is no longer my daily I want to make a hybrid of a flat bed and LC70 style bed. But for now a cool photo I ran across...

The way I look at it doing a flatbed and 37's is like me planning to sas. Really very few things on the east coast that we can't do with lockers and 35's. So my sas plans and you to go 37's and flatbed is more just because we can rather than we need. I think you'd be happier keeping the bed and expo part of the build so you can still go camp and wheel and not have a rig that's built 100% for crawling and sucks for any kind of camping. My .02 cents. Plus the kids/time issues.

I know where you live and the amount of driving required to get into the mountains. Don't know how much you have in mind in thinning out the expo gear.

Paul. Since you've never broken a CV axle with the 35s would you recommend 35s or would you recommend 33s? I'm looking a new tires soon so I'm trying to get all the info I can get before choosing a set... Thank!

All true things but have you wheeled with andy and his hoe runner! Shits amazing!

Still deputing but I would be departing with rtt, rear swing out (hate to say that) but keeping the fridge.

    Dude, that is freakin sick!

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/307596-fitting-35s-3-suspension-lift.html

Fitting 35s going to be some work. I would take a look at this thread. You should also regear.. Could be quite an investment. 33s are great! All depending what you want to do. Not much more you can do with 35s compared to 33s. check it out and let me know if you have any questions

I went the crawler route for years and even had a flatbed truck, SAS and 37's. It's funny how things change. Playing in the rocks is still fun from time to time, but I guess my tastes have changed over time. I'd rather spend time wheeling than fixing stuff that broke in the rocks so my style of offroading has changed over the years to more exploration, even though I still go play in rocks sometimes.

The other factor is the family. If you wheel solo, or with one passenger usually, that's a different thing than taking your wife and your kids. If you want the off-roading to be something you can enjoy as a family then I wouldn't go with a full crawler type build. For me it's always been a priority to have it be something I can do with my family so that's another reason my trucks have become more mellow and the wheeling become a bit more tame.

    Food for thought.

Oh, and the "TacoChaser" (truck with the trailer bed) is super cool. The downside is the height of the bedsides is much higher than the stock bed. Makes it a PITA getting crap out of that trailer bed, but if that doesn't bother you, the clearance is killer and the security with the lid is awesome too.

All true things. Maybe I'm thinking like this because the kids are too small to come along now.
