Day 8

Today we got the bed on the truck, did a some work on the rear bumper (as seen in the attached photo), got some beefy rocker guards, coated all the trim pieces black, and put the camper shell back together. Tomorrow will wrap everything up and get the truck back on the road. The camper shell will stay off the truck for a week or two while the raptor liner fully hardens.

last day

Hey guys, thanks for the encouragement so far, we're getting ready to start the final day (I think) and I will post up some more photos of the finished product, and again in a week or so with the camper shell installed. We have done a few detailed things to the truck during this makeover that I will also share when the truck is complete.
I also wanted to say that I am extremely grateful to my friend Mark and his shop, Fortner Garage, for allowing me to be a part of this entire project (hopefully I wasn't more trouble than I was worth) and for the way the truck has turned out (right out of my mind's eye, couldn't be any better). There is no way I would take on such a huge project like this without professional help. If your reading this Mark....Thank you brother!
Wish us luck guys.

Bumper Detail

Wanted to show ya'll some of the changes we made to the truck, First the back bumper....This is the stock chrome bumper with out the plastic on top and replaced with expanded metal welded on to it. We used stencils to get the numbers onto the bumper (bet ya'll can't figure out what they mean) and pealed them off after the bedliner material firmed up a bit over them.

Rocker Guards, Door Jams, Door Sill Protection

These rocker guards were built for the truck out of square tube, painted with beadliner and welded to the frame. As you can see the door jams were painted and cleared (flat clear), and we sprayed a heavy coating at the bottom of the door sills for added protection when getting in and out.

I'll wait a day and see if anyone can get close, but I will tell you. I was going for a "government issue" look and wanted some numbers on the rear bumper just like the military uses, but also wanted a meaning to it.

Blacked out chrome on front, Coated Mirrors, Removed all Decals

We blacked out all the chrome on the front of the truck, and painted it with beadliner (except the little Toyota emblem flat blacked that). We coated the mirrors in beadliner, and removed all the Toyota emblems (SR5, Tacoma, V6, etc.).

Burshguard????

So...... Should I put the brush guard back on the front or leave it off? If I put it on should I coat it with texture also or flat black it?

I understand that clean up is done with a stiff brush and soap or with a pressure washer. I will let you know how it goes the first time that happens. The paint rep said I should wait a couple weeks in 70 degree weather to allow the product to fully cure before any "regular duty" use. I think I'll wait about a month before giving it a good scrubbing or pressure washing.
