Yea it's steel. It wasn't too expensive either. Been working on the bed rack all day yesterday and today. I made the bed mounts and supports. This thing is really heavy duty. I'll post some photos in a bit.

Alright I havent posted photos of the rack yet, but hopefully it will be done tonight. I went ahead and got attachments for the rack.

Fire extinguisher. Hopefully we will never need to use it, but better to be safe than sorry, right?

I have found this to be the best and cheapest way for a tire mount. I found this break pad piston compression kit at Harbor Freight for only $5. All I need to do is put a larger steel plate and I can use it for a relocation tire mount in the bed of my truck, or for the rack I am building.

Done a ton the last few days. This thing is taking 10x's longer than expected.

My buddy came over last night and helped me weld since I didnt know what I was doing.

Dont do this at home.... The acetylene knob was leaking and started shooting out flames. Perfect timing for a photo. Definitely an oh-shit moment!

Got hooked up on some ammo cans for the rack. Theyre pretty tight.

Current state as of last night. Its definitely heavy duty. Theres no way this thing will ever break.
    rackalmostdone_zpsb8269e15_931907e3d1216a5f002b20f612efda59b76f0067.jpg

Made the support mounts and fittings. Now just gotta either bolt them on the top part of the rack or weld them. Might do a bolt-on so I can run wiring throughout the inside of the rack.

Picked up a light for the bed at Harbor Freight.

ha ha, ill edit it. all i keep thinking is truck parts and mods so naturally came out like that

I am thinking and debating about mounting it on the sides of the rack. I have around 6 inches of dead space I can fill up on each side.. The dimensions are 42"x42" so got lots of options. any ideas?

It happens, im practically a walking dictionary for my dad lol so im always keeping an eye out for words

You could make a tray in front of the rack kinda next to the cab that holds them that way they are by the cab and has easy access

Yeah, I am probably going to bolt them straight to the rack. On the cab side. or... I might put them on the side lol. Idk yet!

Everything should be on the truck tonight. Will try to post some photos.

    posting an update...

I was trying to figure out why my truck bed was crooked. Turns out the frame was completely tweaked and a bit twisted from landing too hard in the rear. I took it to a body shop today to get the frame aligned... Well, while I was there we noticed my rear cab was cracked and broke the weld from the frame area. So that was an expensive lesson learned to never jump my truck. I need to find a frame box kit to prevent it from happening again.

crooked bed. it doesnt look like much, but the photos dont do justice.

You might as well mock your own up with card board and cut them

3/16ths would be plenty to suffice, if you paint and prep right you shouldn't have a problem with rusting

Got a few things going on right now....

The bodyshop I took my truck to said they needed to keep it for another day. There was a lot more damage to the frame then what they initially saw. Fortunately, for me I paid a $500 flat rate to get the whole frame fixed, In addition, I having the body shop work on a few other spots on my cab where it was cracked.

Got the 3/16th 24"x24" steel to make the frame reinforcements.
    framereinforcementmetal_zps816f40b7_13c53f0bbf715c044b77356c7bd1ab5f0f1ddded.jpg

An update on the rack. Finished building the whole thing, so I broke it down and got it all prepped for paint.
