Well, trying to help chase something through verbage is near impossible, which I've learned more than a time or two through trying to troubleshoot Navy issues through distance support, so I'm done here... I'm sure I'll see updates in the 757 one year when this thing runs.

You apply for Walmart sponsorship yet ? might help with funds... anyway, good luck, keep up the good/hard work !!!

I don't know of any engine that has both the intake and exhaust valves open at the same time... that certainly isn't the case with a 3.4 5vz-fe (I've done this over and over again to check for leaks, and i know it works) And if it does stop on an intake cycle, then the hole which the air is escaping will be the tiny compression ring gaps in the piston and not the intake piping as I've said twice now (read much?). We aren't talking about subarus and nissans, we are talking about a Tacoma with a 3.4 5vz-fe... and I have plenty of experience with turbocharging these trucks. We are trying to help him diagnose his crappy idle quality, not coach him on where to put the BOV and MAF for full boost conditions (I'm not anyway)

How was the FIC adapted to the OEM harness? Through the use of an extension harness (plug n play harness) or wired directly into the OEM harness?

Either way, I would start by checking over those connections very carefully. That is where I believe the issue is.

never heard of overlap huh ?

but anyway I don't give a flying fuck what the turbo is on... an engine is an engine

    *** drops the mic

edit: needed to leave this here http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/116-0403-camshaft-basic/
take a read under the lobe seperation section

man, how does anyone do a compression or leak down test with that tiny hole in the compression ring... pffffff, hahaha

you're trying to make someone feel silly who can build an engine in their sleep and design a turbo system while on the shitter

get fucking educated before you talk to me... I'm done here

Lol who said I was trying to make you feel silly? A half brain monkey can tell if the intake is hissing when you blow in it as opposed to lower in the block/heads. You're telling him to throw his MAF in front of the turbo to solve idle issues, and I'm telling you that doesn't matter *because I've been there done that*. I'm telling you that you can get a good idea if your intake has a huge ass leak in it by blowing in it *because I've been there done that*. No need to go on an ego trip Mikey.

Ive had a very thorough discussing over this on CustomTacos.com. Here's a discussion on it; I know a few ppl that have over 50-100k miles on their DD turbo trucks and no BOV.

    http://www.mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=445311&page=3

Here is a diagram that measures the pressure no BOV (the peaks are the fluttering). I agree, on-compression surge is bad, but off compression surge is very manageable. Unless Im running the turbo at absolute max, I should be good with no BOV.

Im not going to swear on this as Im far from an expert but since I plan on a new turbo later down the road, Im ok with the risk. This way, the truck doesn't sputter or stall when the BOV releases manifold pressue. I wouldn't try to convince anyone either way, just what I chose :notsure:

Wire harness. I ran though it briefly, nothing major or easy to pick out. Ill check it out more thoroughly this weekend, good call

Don't even try. I just put him on Ignore; a wonderful feature everyone should be familiar with

If you want to continue your discussion though, please do it via PM. I don't want this thread to be derped up.

Sorry bro I just hate keyboard commandos who talk a lot of unnecessary smack. Tryin to back you up man.
Anyway did you get your new Honda runnin good? And about the BOV... I ran one for about a year and my truck drove just fine. I'm not worried about driving without one, but I won't pass up a smokin deal on a good one either though.

No worries, and I appreciate it, just trying to keep it civil in here. Its ok to have a disagreement but there are ways to discuss things with tact. I've been there, done that, its not worth the effort.

Anyways, parts are on order. Everything should be in by Friday/Sat except the spark plugs. I'm not sure the new O2 sensors will get rid of the check engine light, I think at 178k miles I might need new cats as well

Lol I ran my truck pig rich because of bad O2 censors that I was too young to know how to replace or why from like 180k to 230k and my cat was perfectly fine when I chopped it off to install on my 4Runner. That ECU reset trick that I've bored you with works great for stuff like that :D
Just did it to my aunts hundai because she had 4 or 5 codes and her CEL is still off 2 months later.
