Thanks guys. You should start seeing me at some desert runs. I'm hitting up a local trail this weekend with a few guys as my shake down before the desert. I'm still a dog in sand so no pismo or glamis at least yet.

Thanks. My truck does pretty well out there. I just can't do the tight packed whoops, but most trucks can't. I'm trying to time new tires with the axle swap coming up so I don't need to go to the tire shop as much.

Your beast just eats up the whoops. That was exciting to see a race kit on a 2nd gen out in the desert. I'll get your video up on youtube when it isn't angry at me.

I want to see this beast in person soon now that your turbo is all sorted out.

I took this from another thread I had open. I started tuning, but I still can off road and do desert trip while tuning.

Wiring is all squared away. The day after the fix I did a 350 mile desert trip with no problems or any CEL's.

Last few weeks I've been starting on closed loop tuning. Basically all you do is try to zero out your fuel trims. Main reason why I'm doing this my LT fuel trims were maxed out negative. The computer can't take away any more fuel and on the verge of a CEL light giving me a too rich bank 1 code. Second reason is there is word out that CL tuning can alter your OL mixture. It may be my head or something but it does seem to hold true to that. Good chance it my head messing with me. Anyways it is always good to zero out fuel trims when performance tuning.

So you are probably wondering how I do this if you are ever thinking about trying this craziness out yourself. You can see in my pic I have my MAPCAL software running as my fuel table. The other table is a toyota ecu reader(top right). Try to ignore the hot chick desktop background. Out of the ecu reader I'm logging my fuel trims, TPS, and RPM. This is where it is getting tricky. Trail and Error I'm taking away fuel to help lower my trims over the fuel cells that I hit. It seems for this truck it is from the vacuum columns to 0 psi all the way to a little over 3000 rpm. I just need to be careful I don't bleed over yet into my OL table or get too aggressive in my trimming.
Right now it seems I can subtract fuel in one massive block except right around idle. My trims are still rich but better than before.

The best thing I did so far is adjust the factory o2 sensor voltage to run richer under boost while in Closed Loop. Wow did that add a lot of torque where it is normally a massive flat spot. I did this adjust before the fuel trim adjustment. You would need to adjust your fuel table again if you did it after. I found a few tables as a sample and tried them scaled down and built up to them after once I felt comfortable with my results. My AFR's tapper from 14.7 down to high 11's very nicely right into where my ecu pops into open loop. Before my AFR's would hit high 15's sometimes 16's at low rpm spool. VERY SCARY. I'm hoping another few week of this I should be dialed in to where I'll be happy with the bottom end tune. I'll check back in once I work on the OP part of my table.

I didn't discuss timing, but I basically pulled a good chunk of timing as a safety net and slowly add it in once my fuel is in a great spot. __________________

Dude... sweet turbo job. After dicking around with my Subaru and logging and tuning it I have a lot of respect for the complexity involved in getting that kind of system to run right. Killer job man!

Thanks, the truck does alright now. I just have some detail tuning left, but still very drivable. I definitely have a tuning bug. Nothing I own is stock. I should be out in ocotillo wells this thanksgiving weekend. Excited to see how much smoother it is on dirt now. I can't wait to get a jump on building her up more. I'm trying to save up just a bit more, but hard to do that this time of year.

I did the turbo build in a few weeks over summer. Yeah I got my oil issues figured out. I want to change my feed line a bit so I avoid any future issues. I'm just fine tuning the piggyback whenever I set aside some free time

Got some ghetto low quality cell phone vids from the desert this last weekend. Stupid iphone 6 sucks balls with video sharing. Reason number 24367 why I hate apple, but props to my bro who was able to get some video for me. I didn't take my good camera with me. Nothing impressive. Just a wash run and some fun rollers. Turbo is really quiet compared to a good ball bearing one.

No I won't be able to make the superstition meet this year. It would of been fun. Had an unexpected death in the family and the funeral is that weekend. Hopefully next year, but I've been going to the desert a few times a month lately.

Still going good man. Everyone was excited the week before seeing me rev the shit out of the motor out at the so cal superstition meet. Ebay turbo hasn't has one bug in it for me. About 6k miles on it and a good 500 to 1k on hard dirt miles. Great turbo for low boost. High boost I'd need something better.

sounds good. I was watching some vids on tuning on the mapecu3 and im sure its not this simple but it seems yours just trying to get to the right a/f ratio at each rpm and boost level. and you just add or subtract fuel to get close to 14.7 right? maybe running a little on the rich side to not lean it out?

The truck will automatically do 14.7 at closed loop. It your long term fuel trims that change if you are running different injectors. I just change the fuel curve by adding and subtracting to get my fuel trims away from any high levels. Open loop tuning is where your afr will change. I basically tuned from 14.7 to 11.5 everywhere under boost. The closed to open loop transition is controlled by the truck with a bit of o2 adjust.

You really only need to tune the open loop and let the ecu do the rest
