I just picked up a 02 double cab 4x4. My plan is to build a trophy truck replica (Key word replica)

I dig that bike! I have always wanted to do an early import bobber.

1st piece of advice, ditch that body lift. 3" is way to much if you're going to do anything more than driving pavement. However, a 1" or 1.5" does make it convenient when working on the thing.

 

So when you say replica, do you just want it to look like one or are you looking for it to perform well too?

 

i would like to but getting rid of body lift sounds like a lot of work...

I want it to look like one. I probably will be doing everything but the long travel suspension and roll cage

 

Umm, without those two items it's just a fiberglass shell. So what are your plans? Just fiberglass fenders and street tires?

 

trust me, as much as i want to build a proper trophy truck, i have limited budget for this project as i have so many pother cars to work on. I will just start with the tube bumper and see where it leads me

 

I 'spose I just don't understand what you are trying to do. Maybe you intend to build a prerunner clone? Something along the lines of this? It'd be kinda cool to do the 05 one piece conversion. I hear you on the budget thing, I have too many projects myself.

I'm not judging. Looks like he knows what he's doing by the looks of the bike and the other build, give it some time and see where it goes. Might be a bad ass fire breathing tire roasting dragon by the time he's done, you don't know. Everyone starts somewhere. My first build was a 1976 Hilux with a dana 20 front axle out of a jeep swapped in. It got the job done, and I learned from it and moved on. 10 builds later I still don't know what I'm doing, but my truck hauls ass compared to the '76.

 

It's not an easy task, but if you plan on playing in the dirt, you're going to want to get rid of it. Last time I did one we used high lifts and an engine hoist.

 

Yeah I try not to judge but usually with these builds the guy starts out talking about how they want it to be the most badass rig out there. He seems pretty intent on skipping the stuff that matters and focusing on just the looks

 

Hey, its pointless to build a dessert prepped all out Baja truck here in Michigan. Because, lets face it. There are no desserts worth riding out to in mid west .

But i do love the way baja trucks look and i just want some street driven cool looking Baja truck. Yes, it may be a grocery getter/ daily truck and this may not be a purpose built truck (i knew that i was gonna get flamed for this since all my other projects are "done right" ) but i just fell in love with baja style trucks and don't like the mud boggers in my area. Not that i have anything against them but there are too many of them and its just not my style.

Like some people said. lets see where it goes Im here to learn. I dont know anything about these trucks honestly. Im definitely not trying to build the fastest, coolest, most bad ass truck. But i do have a bad history of going all out with all my projects....... And hey, I may decide to move to Cali some day and build a all out Baja/ Trophy Truck.

I gotta start somewhere

To each his own. Some people build trucks with a specific purpose, others build trucks to look good. If this is a truck built for looks, then props to the OP for being upfront about it. There is plenty of information here to help get the truck built into just about anything whether it's all 'show' or all 'go' and whether it's for pounding pavement or pounding dirt.

I am a fan of the trophy truck look too so it could be a fun build. I'm a former Evo owner too and I think I'm familiar with your Evo from evolutionm.net so I don't have much question that whichever way you decide to go with the truck it will be done well. Just have fun with it. I'm happy to assist in any way and answer any questions although you may choose to ignore anything I have to say.

That Evo is sexy.

I'm interested. You'll probably get flack for it on this site if you build it just for looks, but I don't see it as being any different than the guys who build VWs, beamers, hondas, etc. for shows.
