Yeah I bought it 2 weekends ago I think. Seemed like a nice dude. Got some wiring demons and a few parts to take care of but hopefully it's a solid rig

Got a full exhaust put on today, cat, muffler, o2 bung, and got them to keep it above the frame rails for $300 out the door. One step closer to being ready to roll. Just need an inspection for tags now. I'm going to get a front driveshaft built this week and I have some serious vibes from the rear one piece to take care of too.

How is the rear driveshaft and pinion angle set up? Single joint?

Yeah it's just a single u joint at the case and at the pinion. It looks like the pinion needs to be shimmed down to match the angle at the case. It's pretty ridiculous over 30 mph lol. That brings me to another point, I need to figure out how to make the speedo work with the gear drive cases. I know they make adapters but I'm just not sure what exactly I need since all I have is the plug from the factory harness.

Speedo works the same way as the taco case... that gear tooth thing that is on the t-case. Also, nice buy, I'm glad I talked you into it :luvya:

Haha yeah yeah, I think it's a solid buy. I only need a few more things before its ready for the shakedown run Feb 21-22.

And I don't see any gear tooth thing? lol The old style cases just have a cable with a slot on it and a plastic threaded cap that holds it in the hole. I'll take some pics tomorrow, I'm too lazy to pull it in the garage. I've been searching for the adapters and it all looks very different that what I have.

Good to see it back on the road and not killing grass in my yard. It looks like you have made more progress on it in 3 week than i did in two year lol.

Haha yeah man, just needed a little love. The vehicle speed sensor cable is too short for the dual case setup and I'm having a hell of a time trying to figure something out. It's throwing a code and I have 7 days to pass inspection.

So everything I've been reading says that tacoma's are electric vehicle speed sensors, hence the electric to mechanical adapters that are out there for people like me running dual gear drive cases. Now the catch is, for some reason, this tacoma has a fully mechanical speedo cable. I was able to trace the cable back up the harness, pull it from all the clips, and re route it to where it easily reaches the rear case and the speedo is fully functional now. Now the catch is since it's mechanical, will the check engine light go off for the "vehical speed sensor"?

I doubt it, if the speedo is working I think it's fine. Is your check engine light on?

Yes it was throwing po500 for the "vehicle speed sensor". I unhooked the battery to reset everything and drove it for a bout 10 min around my neighborhood and it didn't come back on but I'll get it out more tomorrow and we'll see.

Well I drove it around a while today and still no codes so I went to try and get an inspection and have 4 "not ready" alerts, 2 is the most I can have to pass. So I just need to put some more miles on it and let the computer learn everything since it's been sitting so long. Also scored a free o2 sensor from a buddy since the plug was cut off my rear one. Got that in and the truck smoothed out and ran much better with a noticeable gain in power.

Passed inspection this morning!! Going to be a mean mall crawler/grocery getter haha.

On another note.. my neighbor has a 5.3L with either a cracked head or blown head gasket for $150. I'm really thinking about picking it up and ditching all the toyota running gear and going to a 60/14 bolt with a 203/205 and I'm not sure on the tranny yet. I think I can get almost all of that done with just the money from the 82.

I'm getting really good at this... had the knuckle off and apart, wire brushed the high steer arm, replaced the hub studs with arp's (had to do the stupid double nut trick too) all in an hour lol. Not a drop of grease anywhere on this side either. Both trunion bearings bone dry, nothing in the knuckle or hub and only 3 out of 4 cone washers... I'll probably order a 30 spline chromo shaft for this side since the one I have is 1.5" too short. Already shaved the other knuckleball so I'll do this one too while it's apart.
