I don't know much about how the Tacomas came with stereos, but if you have a 1st Gen and are upgrading to a component woofer/tweeter for the doors, you might be interested in these sail panels for tweeters. My 1998 had manual mirrors and just a plain sail panel on the interior. These are from a 4-Runner and replaced the plain sail panels and allowed for a 1" tweeter to be mounted at the top of the door.

Toyota part numbers are 67491-35010 and 67492-35010.

These came out of my 1998 and fit well, required a small (< 1/4") hole be drilled behind the sail panel to fit the mounting tab.

They looked stock when the speaker was installed. This write-up shows how they are installed:

    $15 shipped for the set.

    Thanks!

    Killer:
Just saw your reply on these. I'm unsure if they come in different colors, but I can tell you that the interior spray paints do a good job. I had a 4Runner ages ago that I had some Qform kick panels for. Bought them used and they were the wrong color as I needed a darkish tan to match the kickpanel color in the truck. Anyway, wiped them down really good with cleaner, sprayed them with plastic primer and them painted them with one of those interior color spray paints. Used light coats and built up the final finish to where I wanted. Worked great, looked factory and with stood some pretty decent abuse by passengers with careless feet.

The paint I bought in just the paint section of the regular parts store. Just took the stock kick panel in to get a match.

Mention as you could get a set of black ones and paint them to match if you wanted.
    Hope that helps.
    Cheers

PS: Wow a 19,000 mile truck! Sounds really nice!
