    Yes, a poplock would be needed to secure your tailgate but a determined thief would probably cut through the vinyl. As for the security of the cover, it is solid. I was surprised at the strength of the Velcro on the sides and the cover itself is waterproof. The only place I had water get in was the back (nearest to cab) when the truck was parked in a steady rain.
