How to check "Check Engine" light

The Check Engine light came on yesterday. I figured it was the MAF since thats ussually the easy answer. When I pulled it out, one side was coated in a black layer of gunk (dry). Probably from the K&N box filter. I just did the deck plate mod on top.

I cleaned the MAF but the light is still on. Anyone know how to check the code? Thanks!

go to autozone and get them to read it on their scan tool...then let us know what the code is.

Thanks. It was the MAF. I disconnected the battery to reset the light. Is there and easier way to do this?

If you own a Tacoma, a $50 scanner from Harbor Freight is a worthwhile investment.

Scangauge II

A lot more useful than a normal scanner and will read/reset codes, as well as show you all sorts of other things.
