Bug Deflector???

Ive been thinking about taking off my Bug deflector, bc Ive heard they can damage the hood. Ive tryed looking and cant see much of anything. But I would like some oppinions. should I take it off or leave it?

IMO bug deflector is a misnomer. Should be called a rock chip protector. Much more effective at preventing chips. Especially on the lower front area. Bugs continue to immolate themselves on my windsheild even though I have one of then deflectors. Curious, what kind of damage are bug deflectors causing?

 

Depending on how they mount, lots of folks see rub/scratch marks in their paint. I'm personally not a big fan of deflectors on Tacomas but that's mostly because of the curved hood profile... makes it look like some kind of jacked up moustache. But it's your truck... do what YOU want to do with it.

 

Yeah, thats what I think too. I think I might just pull it off and see how it works out. And I want to see If it left any damage.

I'd say leave it for the rock chip protection.

Personally I like it on your truck. It breaks up the front nicely. As for the damage they cause, some flap around in the wind and rub your paint off. Look under it. Mine has little rubber dome things on the Hood to keep it from hitting. It hasn't damaged my truck at all and its been on since I got it.

 

leave it! I think lighter colored first gens need one to look right. Plus its mostly 2nd gens with the damage.

 

Well, today I took it off. And I am sooooo Glad I did. There was a ton of crud under it. I had to use Goof Off to get it clean, then wash and wax twice. It was soo dirty and caked on. Im ganna leave it off for now. I kinda like it.
Im also kinda glad I did it, bc my paint isnt faded yet, the 2 area's look the same. Im sure If I waited longer it wouldve been bad.
I will get some new pics when I get my new Camera this week. (Nikon S8000)

I think I have the same one you have. And I would def. take yours off to clean under it every now and then. mine was nasty.

 

Could you tell what brand it it? It seems to be a pretty well made one.
