deck plate mod suggestion?

    I don't want to highjack this post...but in your opinion, what is a good free flowing muffler to use with a deck plate mod. And would TRD headers help out with MPG and HP with a deckplate mod or hurt?

    I don't have headers so I'm not really qualified to answer that part. I can only speak about my experiences and that is my truck seems to breathe better with the addition of the deck plate.

    I have a Magnaflow 18" muffler with the stock tailpipe. The muffler is a straight thru design. I have read that the 3.4 is sensitive to back pressure. Too little and you loose torque. To that end I stayed way from dual outs and larger diameter tailpipe(s).

    It was a pleasant surprise to gain backa little hp and a half a mpg (that I had lost when I added bigger tires) with the deck plate mod.

    I have often wondered if headers would help. Some folks on TW rave about them, Aren't the TRD headers supposed to help the engine breathe?

    That's what I though. Just wondered how the deck plate, full flow exhaust, and trd header combo would work.

    Do you have the TRD headers? I read that they are no longer available.

    Actually no I do not have the trd headers and wasn't really aware if they were available or not. Just wondering how they would work with other intake/exhaust mods. I'm thinking about doing the deck plate mod myself so I'm just trying to gather as much knowledge as possible. Thanks.

    It wont hurt to go larger, but you're still limited by the tube going from the air filter box to the throttle body, as well as the throttle body diameter. Since those are only about 3", 4" is actually more than is needed as well. Actually, with the existing airflow tube, you could probably get away with a 2" hole for the same performance, maybe even smaller. I dont think much testing has ever been done on minimum hole size needed, but since 4" is common for a deck plate, everyone just sticks with that.

    When I did mine a few years back I did not have the internet, or a smart phone, and couldn't locate a Deck Plate locally....but I didn't let that stop me. I went to the local hardware store and purchased a 4 inch threaded PVC pipe end, and a cap to match it. It serves its purpose, but trust me....The Deck Plate is soooo much better looking. Someday I'll take the time to redo it, but my main goal was to not loose the ability to seal it up when it's dusty or wet, and it still does just that.

    I think you can fit a 6" in the V6 airbox but for the 4 banger airboxes can only fit a 4" plate in them.
