01 Tacoma 4x4 fuel filter help

my Tacoma regular cab 4cl has over 100k on it and i want to put a new fuel filter in it, i know they are supposedly lifetime fuel filters, but i still would like to replace it. but i am having a hard time figuring out how to get to the filter to replace it, the filter is but under the intake manifold and has banjo bolts on both side of it, can someone tell me how to replace it.

 

Not sure what that is. But the fuel filter in under the cab on the driverside. Little black canister.

 

^^^ Yes, it's under the vehicle mounted on the frame.

 

im sorry for not mentioning this but i have a 2.7 4cl on a regular cab, for some reason the prerunners 6cl and tacomas with larger cabs have the fuel filter mounted under the driver. i know my fuel filter is under the intake manifold because the new filter i have has banjo bolt alignment pins on both sides of the filter,

see the 6cl have the regular flare nuts but the 4cl has two banjo bolts

has anyone dealt with this type of configuration

 

Had the same problem with my 99. The front side can be accessed fairly easily. Go thru the fenderwell!!!!! Remove tire for workspace. Be patient they can b a huge pain to remove!!!

 

also make sure you depressurize the system or you're going to have fuel spraying out at you

when i change them, i usually diable the fuel pump (unplug it somehow, or pull a relay) start the car and let it die out

 

when you do that, does it also kill the ignition spark? if it does, then it won't work to depressurize the fuel system because the car won't fire and use the fuel


if it does kill the sprak and fuel, that's what you would want for a compression test, you need to kill both the fuel and the spark, but still want it to be able to crank

 

i just took my gas cap off to let depressurize. Better have some slinky fingers to get that sucker off. But don't fret, it can be done and you will be glad you done it when you see the trash that comes out of it when you get it off.
