So from what I understand I can't really do much to lower the back, but I should get 5100's with new springs for the front to raise it up.

You can pull one of those leafs out, and see what it gives ya. How much are you wanting to lower it?

I'd have to measure but it looks like about 2"

Whats involved with pulling a leaf?

Try removing the bottom leaf, and see what it does for ya. There is a write up on here ( A couple actually) that out line the dissasembly of the rear leaf pack. Do a search for AAL instal.

I just found it. The only thing that is different from my setup is I have clamps that go fully around the leafs in this picture instead of just being open at the one end. I guess I would have to cut off the top two tabs to remove the one leaf with a grinder.

You may be better off having a shop do it for ya. You will have to grind off the spring clamps.

This seems doable. I needed an excuse to pick up a grinder anyway.

I would personally lift the front. those struts look abused. or they just have alot of miles on them...

off-topic post: look at your rear diff fluid if you think the former owner towed w/it.

I just changed the rear and transfer case fluid a few min ago actually. Was going to start the trans fluid then realized my racing jack only goes to 14" high and it was getting late.

I want to eventually do that but if I can lower the rear for free I'm going to do that for now. At least until I solve my transmission whine.

Are you sure its the tranny making the whine, and not the power steering pump?

It might be something someone would be willing to trade a 3 leaf pack for, depending on condition, of course. People are always wanting to up their rear a little after putting on a lift in the front. Where are you located?

I'd probably opt for a cheap spacer lift as opposed to dropping the rear.

Not a bad idea. I updated my profile on the left with my location.

    None yet! It's new!
Actually, I don't get it. A Tacoma is supposed to be a truck. Generally, the purpose of a truck is to carry something in the bed, thus lowering the back end to some degree. I would not want a truck that sags when you carry something, so I think the back end SHOULD be slightly higher when unloaded. Personal opinion, and I'll bet that's why they come that way.

The OP's truck has a different leaf pack than what came from the factory. It sits too high for his personal taste.
