that's exactly what i ended up doing. ...now i have 2 brand new axles that i have done the boot stretch mod on. ..and 2 spares that i'm going to put new inner boots on. ..4 axles for a little less that $200

Digi- i've been running my co's at 1.5" since new. i never experienced any vibs or other negative effects other than the boots wearing. it's interesting how 2 similar vehicles can display different behaviors with similar mods. ..at any rate, my truck rides much better now. ..still firm, but also compliant when needed and no boot rub. ...i should have lowered them a long time ago.

ya, so instead of breaking your axles that have a lifetime warranty and takes an hour to swap out, you'll blow up your diff. thats a great idea

I just replaced my DS axel and added a 930 for the inner boot and left the stock outer boot. On the PS Axel I have the orange ORS high angle boot on the inner, but those things are 50$ a pop! The 930's are cheaper and it seems like they work just as well.

As for the boot slide mod... I don't understand how that would help. I've heard of boots tearing from being stretched out too far from putting a lift on (like mine did), but never from being compressed to much. I guess I'll see how long my stock outers go before they wear through...

Generally when you lift the "fins" on the boot are contacting each other due to a more extreme angle. The "fins" rub each other as the wheels spin causing wear and eventually tears. Sliding the boot puts the fins farther apart resulting in less rubbing, thus causing less tears.
The boot slide mod isn't 100% fix, it just helps.
