Janster, you ROCK!!!
I have the 2.7 engine, do you know if this will work for me?
And once you completed the mod yourself, did you ever need the plug?
If so when did you actually put it on?

I left the plug off most of the time.
Whenever I'd go offroading - I'd put the plug back in.

FWIW i've RARELY put my plug back in...even offroad or in monsooning rains...and only once did i find the slightest bit of mud that squeaked by the filter...

im running an K&N filter and ive had no issues with not closing it up...i even occasionally go thru the car wash with it open

Unless you get water in it I dont see how making an engine breathe better will hurt it.

I did it, I did it, I did it!!!

Well, I did it today! 4" deck plate, and the K&N 33-2054 drop in filter. Have not driven it yet, but I did start it up and let it run for a minute, and it didn't sound any different. I will keep you posted on if I think it makes any difference versus the stock set-up. It would be cool if i got another mile per gallon. Dream on, right?

Rain will not be a problem with this modification, will it? I only plan on screwing the "plug" in when I hose out the engine compartment about once a year.

Have most of you that have done this mod taped off the entrances to the 2 silencers? Is there a performance gain to blanking these off? If so, do you think some foil air conditioning tape would be a good thing to use to blank these off? It is a very heavy duty foil tape used for sealing duct work.

Congrats on your mod, I did mine yesterday as well!
There is a noticable sound diference at WOT and it feels like a turbo type kick in as well
It took longer than 1 hour as well, but I broke my brand new Dremel in the process so I had to use a hand file...

Yeah, I would like to see someone do the whole job in 1 hour. B.S. Did you blank off the silencers coming off of the intake tube ? This is supposed to help with air flow.

"blanking off" the resonators will give no performance gain at all.
