found a tacoma at a local used car lot...asking price seems high, of course...the piece of information that would be most helpful to me for negotiation would be what the truck would fetch at wholesale dealer auction.

'04 ext cab, black, 80k miles, V6, 5-spd, 4x4, TRD, SR5, AC, CD, power locks/windows/etc, slider, bed liner.

it's probably a clean truck. zip=19347. truck was bought at auction during week of 8/15. if it's possible to know how much it's gone up or down since then, that helps, too.

thanks much in advance! creeping ever closer...

I don't have access to black book prices but I would say they should be asking about 14-15k.

I work in pre owned auto sales so maybe I can help? sure you want to pay blackbook, but how do you expect the place to function? the dealer buys vehicles at blackbook ISH and sells at retail, thats business. if you want the truck, blackbook doesn't really matter, what's important is what are you willing to pay for the truck?

Yeah, if it was not black (I just don't like black) it would be absolutely perfect.

didn't say i wanted to pay blackbook (though it would be nice)...just want to level the field a bit by peeking at the dealer's hand. the dealer has more info than i do, so the negotiation naturally tips in his favor.

Nada guides gives a pretty good idea of what the dealer would have bought it for and the retail on the truck. It's been pretty accurate for me.
