so my tacoma seems to have lost some of its get up n go. i also noticed that when i have i floored at take off it kind of surges. my temp gauge is running at the half way point all the time where it used to run about 1/4. i know its time for a belt replacement but have been putting it off. so sunday morning i pulled the cover back on the timing belt it looks like the waterpump is leaking a little, the belt is not tight against the top idler pulley, all the pulleys are pitted. i guess i know what my next project is.:(

i just spoke with a friend of mine who used to be a mechanic. he says it sounds like the truck has jumped timing by the way it sputters and skips when i lug the engine. after a quick search on ebay i have found a complete timing belt kit with all the pulleys, water pump, seals, gaskets, new tensioner, and thermostat, with free shipping $288. anyone ever bought parts from ebay? the ad says oem quality and list all the manufacturers of the parts. if i go with my local parts store (napa, motor supply, vip) i will be paying about $200 more.

I have bought several parts from Ebay. None for the Taco yet, but I wouldn't be too scared to buy online from them, but I would look very carefully at their rating. I have bought wheel and tire packages from Ebay, and several other parts also. I always buy from power sellers and not individuals when it comes to high prices objects.

It's the water pump & two pulleys are what cost the most. I've seen some of those kts & some actually state the pulleys are OEM. I like vendors who list all the manufacturers of the parts in a kit, somewhat tells you they're not trying to hide anything. Great savings if you go with one of them if you are acceptable with the parts you are getting.

I just bought an OEM timing belt last week from an online Toyota dealer. I paid $39 for it. Now that's so inexpensive that I wouldn't even bother with going with a cheaper aftermarket belt. The OEM water pump was $99 from them but you can find ebay sellers offering the OEM pump for less.

the truck has 152,000 miles on it the belt was last changed at 62,000. the belt is in very good condition it shows no cracks but its time to replace it. i seem to have a small coolant leak i am guessing from the water pump as it is original. i have always felt that oem or nothing was the way to go but most of the oem parts are outsourced anyways so why not try something different and see how the quality is. if i have this right the link to the ebay site should be right below.

A buddy of mine just did the timing system rebuilt on mine a few days ago. The truck was not leaking water but, I felt with 160,000 miles might as well do it. I purchased all the items from Napa and spent $350 dollar but I know that if there is a problem I can go and give them hell, a little hard to do so thru your computer! I was not losing power at all but prev. maintance goes a long way.
I also started using Amsoil and has worked wonders with the temp of the truck.

i think it was aroud the 375 or 400 mark at my napa with my discount. i plan to do some more checking before i buy, but the price on this kit seems very fair. i have been running mobil-1 in my truck as long as i have owned it so i dont think the oil is the problem with my temp. i agree good oil is one of the best things you can do for your engine. i think the fact that mine sat in the garage for 4 years has alot to do with the problems i now have.

Well, I hope all goes well with your project. My buddy did get a good deal and $375 is what I spent but so glad I changed all the parts out and running everything new. I thought about Mobil 1 for sometime after reading several threads here at TW, but wanted to try something different. I like the availability of Mobil 1 over Amsoil, I can just head out to Wally world and pick up the product. Shall see how this oil plays out this year.

just got off the phone with my friend that works at motor supply. he can get me the complete kit without the fan,ac,alternator belts for $295. this kit is put out by dayco he is going to call and get more info for me. i am not going to do anything for about 2 weeks. i have too much going on to start anything else right now. i will just be stuck driving my powerstroke for a couple of weeks.

i got the kit for $220 with no seals or tensioner. the tensioner was $89, and the seals were another $30. so i am at about $350 now and this kit didn't come with the accessory drive belts. if i replace them i will be at about $400. the kit from ebay was $280 with everything. i am not sure i made the right purchase. i also had to return the water pump because it didn't have the extra nipple on the thermostat housing. now i think i have all the parts time to reassemble.
