anyone else pissed that trd headers (for the 3.4) are discontinued?

i just don't understand why they stopped making them. my truck is only 7 years old and i can't get trd exhaust headers for it.

I'm not pissed, I could care less. The TRD headers are way too damn expensive for what they are anyway. You'd have to cut/modify your exhaust to fit them too. Moving the cats further back might give you smog issues if in CA. Just paying for the TRD name.

 

there not that expensive! I got mine new for around $360.
It was a bitch to cut and weld the new flange on. But the performance gain was noticeable,and awsome! I think the only header that compares to the TRD's are the Dough Thorley's.

 

Thats why I was pissed. I read your post and others and it seems these and the Dough Thorleys are the best. Gotta do some reseach on the Doughs now..

 

Sucks for you. There not all that great either, I have them and I don't see any HP gain

I know this won't sound too cool but IMO our engines don't have enough stroke to warrant headers. These motors are carefully engineered right down to the exhaust. You can open up the exhaust a little on these trucks but if you overdo it you lose power. You need some back pressure in the flow. Notice that our exhaust systems aren't that quiet stock? Toyota already took care of it. I just run two pipes from the muffler back which changed the flow just a little bit. To me headers are ok for a V8 with grunt that needs to be freed up. I heard some guys here who are dissapointed in those headers anyways.

 

i realize that they arn't going to change my v6 into a monster but they will increase horse power. that's what they were engineered to do. likely more to work with the super charger kit but having individual pipes of a equal length for each cylinder will even out the back-pressure/flow. if you think that the stock exhaust manifold is a fine work of engineering youd be right. its a good compromise to save money and room in the engine bay without loosing too much power. and realistically it does a decent job. but there is power to be had there. especilly if you have something like a super charger forcing more air through them.

really what i'm disappointed with are the results from reviews on the fitment of the aftermarket offerings. as far as i have read they are just not up to snuff in that department.

all that being said i do come from a background of 2-stroke motorcycles that benefit greatly from a tuned exhaust. so i do likely have overly high expectations of possible exhaust gains.
