satin black 1st gen?

so my friend owns a stock 95.5 and the maroon paint is extremely rough. clearcoat missing everywhere, massive scratches etc. we were thinking about eventually rattlecanning it satin black. I'm pretty sure with good prep work we could make it look much better than it does now. might end up actually using a real gun to spray with if we could make that work in the future.

anybody seen one before? i'm talking about a stockish truck, not a dedicated rock crawler.

 

You can take your time and make it look decent but it won't be nearly as durable as the stock paint or a professional paint job. If you spill gas on the side it'll make the paint run for instance, it'll scratch through much easier, etc. As long as you're ready for these kinds of headaches, go for it and plan on repainting every couple of years afterwards. Rustoleum is a much softer paint than automotive grade paint. I painted an old motorcycle like that and ended up stripping it all back down again and doing it right the second time. I'd get automotive paint and spray it with a gun if I were you.

 

yea, the kind of paint doesn't matter much as long as it's satin. the tougher the better.

if you saw the truck in person you would immediately understand why we're thinking of this route. the truck is very rough and it's not worth putting that kind of money into cosmetic things, but it would make it look a lot better than it does now for very cheap.

i'm just wanna see what it would look like on a 1st gen.

 

i know someone that used engine block paint and it didnt look to bad. except it was bright orange. would have been pretty tough.

This paint has been on almost exactly a year and I beat the hell out of it out hunting. it has had Salton Sea salty crappy mud caked on it for months at a time before being washed and there is only one small chip from where I nailed the bedside with a tie down strap.

Total cost of paint was like 50-75 bucks.

 

Shoot I like it. The salton sea is nasty too!

 

Your telling me. We run the roads 3-4 days a week duck hunting and then hit it during less wet months for Coyotes and such.

The best comparison ive ever heard is from my buddy Tommy. He says that Mud is like Hot Peanut Butter. You dont get buried in it, you just loose traction because it gets stuck to the tires and everything else. I was my dog and gear with Vinegar to get the mud off as regular soap and water just wont cut it.

 

what brand of tractor paint did you use? looks awesome!
