I need to replace my CVs on my truck and I called Autozone to see if they had any in stock and the guy i talked to wasnt helpful to say the least. he said all they had in stock was a half shaft instead of a full cv axle. is the cv axle two shafts or do they call the entire assebly the half shaft? Also, what is this $100 core charge they are going to charge me for?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
They call the entire assembly a half shaft. It takes two half shafts per truck; a right and a left.

A core charge means you have to bring the replaced part back in to get the $100 charge back. It's common among alternators, starters, etc. They reuse pieces from the the replaced part.

    Here is one half shaft.

A core charge is what they charge you at firs but you get it back when you bring your old axle in, since they rebuild these.

ok thak you it makes more sense now. i was trying to figure out how in the world i was going to separate the shafts.

Ok here is another question. Autozone only has half shaft in stock so is there another store that offers the lifetime warranty that i could see if they have 2 of them before getting AutoZone to special order a second one?

Oh, and are the shafts side specific or are they universal for both sides. Thanks

Ok. thanks for the help guys. i called napa and they offer a 3 year 36000 mile warranty and they are olnly $56 per axle so i think im gonna give those a try since the autozone guy asked me if i need front or rear cv axles... Pickin them up saturday and hopefully put them on sunday assuming i dont run into any rust or stuck bolt issues

i just replaced both of my cv axles about a month or so ago. I bought mine at Oreily's and they have lifetime warranty. I paid $65 bucks per axle and both axles for drivers side and passenger side are identical.. same part #... It's actually a pretty easy job and you should be able to get it done in about 2 hours or so.
