At what point do i need new rear shocks?

at the moment i have bilsteins up front on the middle setting and the front sits slightly higher than the rear by about half an inch. I eventually want to move the billies in the front to the highest setting and add and inch to the rear hoping that it will sit in the same stance that it does now only and inch higher. i was thinking about a simple U-bolt and block would do the trick. Would i need to put in new rear shocks?

 

If they ride fine then no. But you might as well. They are not too expensive and it's and easy install. And most will say to get an aal instead of a block.

 

stand on your bumper and jump. if you can bottom it out then replace them..

crank the fronts to the very top

and lower the rear.

 

You don't really need new shocks. As long as you don't fully compress your shocks before hitting the bumps you should be fine.

so is there any really damage i can cause to my truck my not putting in new rear springs? or it just a matter of comfort and flex?

 

Just do an AAL that should stiffen your ride up a little. then add some 5100's later.

 

agreed, unless your leafs got a nice frown in them. If thats the case, its time for a replacement pair.

 

Do you want a stiffer ride, or a smooth ride?
You can reuse your stock rear shocks, but what can happen is you can sometimes feel them top out (reach full extension) after lifting the rear. That is why most people also get longer shocks with the rear lift.
