I have 140 K on my 2001 double cab. Over the past couple months I notice a gasoline odor after I park, turn off the engine and I step out of the truck (only outside cab, not inside). It occurs during the 1st quarter tank of gas after a fill up. I mainly notice the odor coming from the gap between the rear of the cab and the bed. Could there be some kind of vent valve or hose that is malfunctioning or has become disconnected? any help would be greatly appriciated.

Mine had a similar odor right after I bought it several months ago. (I have a 2001 prerunner) A friend down the street mentioned it might be the charcoal canister (?) but recommended that when I fuel up, let the pump shut itself off and do not top off. I followed his recommendation and it hasn't smelled of gasoline since.

Put your ear to the cab-bed juncture and listen...gremlins.
