Best Intake?

I have a 01 2.7 5 speed. I am looking for the best intake to get some better gas mileage and a little more power. I also live in California so it would have to be something that would pass smog. Thx in advance for your help.
Sorry, I’m sure this has already been covered….I’m a newbie.

K&N, definitely
Its a really nice intake system thats definitely worth the money. I have the K&N Series 77 intake and with it ive gotten an increase in horsepower, louder sound, and after driving it for several months about 2 more mpg's

well K&N is good however, i hear that those can mess up your MAF. people do like them though. i would recomend a AFE second stage magnum force air intake. its oil free. but its up to you. just my 2 cents

Deck plate mod is amazing. I just did it before my last fill up and I got 2 more mpgs and better acceleration. If you insist on doing a cold air intake then you can't go wrong with K&N, but I have been intrigued by AFE products. It is more of a dry filter rather than the K&N oiled filter that blocks up the MAF. Somebody else might have another opinion.

its basically a hole in the front side of the airbox that lets the engine breathe alot more freely, and the hole has a screw in cap that can be put in when offroading and such!!! its a great mod!!

This may be a "dumb" question... but if I am upgrading my intake I take it there is no reason to do this mod as the old box is generally removed? Please correct me if I am wrong

That would be correct. If your putting an intake on you will be removing the stock air box.

yes....this is correct. but just so you know, its alot cheaper than an intake, with decent dyno results, and you can still put in a good filter too to add to it. just food for thought.

hey man.....its really simple mod to do.....definitley diy!!

all you do is buy a 4 inch deckplate from a place that sells boating supplies. you remove the airbox, and on the front side, youll trace the deckplate on the outer lip and drill and cut it out. then you'll set it in and mark/drill holes for some screws or bolts to hold it in. then you'll need some sensor safe sealant silicone. runa decent bead around the deckplate, and push deckplate into place on the airbox. then put the screws or bolts in and tighten down. then reinstall the airbox, put filter back in and you are good to go!! maybe a half hour to 45 minutes depending on how you cut the hole out.

LOL Sure easy... ok... Like I said in my intro.. I can take apart and put back together PCs and laptops all day long, I tend to not mess with things under the hood of my truck. I do have a couple friends that might be able to lend a hand
