He didnt say OME's @ 2.5". He said billys set at 2.5" to OME's..didnt specify setting with OME's so I assumed zero. Anyway, I agree with your second sentence.

I have 881's and the billies set at the second setting. Love it.

Yea I was definatley implying the OME coils on the bilstiens set at 0". The ride is rough as it is. I would never get a lift spring and then preload it on the strut. I was Just wondering if the 881 coils on the bilsteins set at 0" where would give better ride quality then TRD coils preloaded at 2.5 inches? and by better I mean that they are worth every penny.

did you need the dif drop kit for the lift the 881s provided?

Is the AAL you have the one from wheelers off-road?

NegroTundra, did you have the stock coils on the 5100s before you switched? also did you get a full 2.5" inches of lift with the new coils?

Nope, I had a crappy fabtech coilover set. I got 2.5 initially, but after 100 miles or so they are at 2.0" Perfect in my opinion

Not necessary but if you have the extra $$$ then it's a nice set up.

I guess its your own call but I looked at the angle of the CV's before and after the D/D kit and there was a definate improvement of the angle of the boots and for only $10, and it save me from replaceing a boot as they were rubbing before the kit, it was an easy install. My $0.02

IMO, the diff drop is worthless. I did it on my 03 Tundra and it doesnt really drop the diff. It only drops the front end of the diff, which in total has the effect of merely rotating the diff, front part down.. The rear mount is fixed, you can't drop that part. I had a 3" lift on the Tundra and ended up removing the diff drop because the front diff started producing a pulse-like vibration and associated noise. I suppose the diff did not like being roatated like that. Furthermore, I put about 60k on that Tundra with the lift and no diff drop and my cv's never batted an eye, and I'm not easy on my rigs when it comes to offroad. I studied the front diff on the Taco and it is the same as design the Tundra. Just my $0.02

I think I saw at least one person with this set up. I just did mine like this. OME 881 Coils with the 5100's at middle setting (1"), I also put the Dakar rear leaf springs in with 2.25". Truck looks great! Ride seems better than my old worn out suspension. But my question to those who have this front set up, at about 30 mph there is a funny noise (could be vibration), I guess you would call it. But it comes and goes only lasting a second or two at a time. Do you think it is anything to worry about? This is my first build, and this is a new noise and I do not want to tear the truck up. Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks,
    Nic

How much lift did you get with the OME's and billys @ 1"? If its >3", it's probably a bit too much. That noise probably is something to worry about. Switch it into 4wd and see if it still does it. If it goes away, your front diff isn't happy. Start with taking out the diff drop. If that doesnt help, I'd drop the coils down to the "stock" notch. The springs will settle so give it some time before you take this measure. Lastly, send pics of your cv's so we can help more. Good luck.

Edit: I could also be your driveline...you may need to drop the carrier bearing. Do the test above and let us know what happens.

Okay I did all this on Tuesday night. I think I got about 3" to 3.25" of lift from wear the old sagging sagging springs and shocks were. When I measure before the drivers side was about 34.75 or 35" to bottom of fender flare, which I was an inch lower than stock dc like mine that sits in my work lot, now it is about 37.75 to 38 on drivers side. Passenger side is a little higher right now. From what I understand the coils will give me Approx. 1.75 inches of lift and the 5100's at the middle setting will give another inch, after everything settles. Does this sound correct. That is what my sources at TRDparts4u and DSM advised me. I am work right now so I will get some pictures up here as soon as I can in the next day or so.

I am not familar with a carrier bearing drop. You know of any write ups on that?

    Thanks again for the help!
    Nic

I've had it in 4wd but haven't had it up to 30mph. It was slower speeds, mostly in parking lots with the ice here. Main roads have been pretty clear. Is it okay to run it in 4wd at 30 mph on dry pavement?

Just drive straight. Turning is where any binding would occur.
btw, what length 5125s did you put with the dakars?

Thanks I will try the 4wd in the morning on the way to work.

Not sure what length the 5125's I gave the info to Down South Motorsports and they fitted it up, based on the amount of lift from the leafs. I talked to Marco, and he looked it all up.

I am hoping that the noise is from the alignment. I know it was out just a little bit out, when I had it in for the tire rotation and balance in November they said it was but said since I was going to do new struts and shocks to wait. So I will see next week when I take it in.
