I could be mistaken, but I believe this is the fuel pressure regulator.

ya that was my next step was to pull the plugs etc

i have an old service report for the truck stating the plugs were changed like 50K kms ago or less i think, but i'll pull them and have a look....pretty sure i've got coil packs...no dist and rotor

i am getting pretty terrible fuel milage as well (see my fuelly below)

Unfortunately I am having the same problem as well on my 2003; and it sucks because since I drive long distances for school and work I don't want to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere. Same symptons.

.1.) Turn the key, it cranks strong, then it I release the key and it almost dies then fires up. It's very strange. The battery is less than 2 months old. It drives great no hesitiation or strange idle. I have no clue.

Coolant Temp sen. tells it how much fuel to give it depending on how cold or hot it is.

^ I think you're right, it starts fine when it's cold, but once it gets up to normal operating range that's when it becomes a problem.

Having this issue as well, though it's intermittent. Happens a few times a week. Battery still tests okay (12.59), installed new spark plugs and wires a couple months ago. Only 45k miles on my '03 and I doubt the fuel filter has ever been changed but the issue only started recently.
