What are some ups and downs about the 1990 V6 extended cab 4x4 Tacoma. I am wanting to know how is the fuel mileage, tranny and 4x4. They want 3k I talked him down to 2500. I didn't get a real good look at it or get to take it for a ride i was in a hurry to get home and it was raining. Thanks for whatever info you give.

The biggest problem is that there is no such thing.

Ok Sorry about that any other helpful info. would be appreciated.
I passed the truck on the side of the road about 1.5 hrs ago. I like to take the emblems off anyway so it not having the Chrome Tacoma on it is in my favor. I would assume everything else is the same.

    no problem buddy!

as far as the truck goes, best thing to do is take it for a test drive and give it a real good look over......maybe get a mechanic you trust to look over it too and make sure its in decent shape. should be a pretty cool truck to wheel as long as everything works and all.

so wait...is it advertised as a 1990 tacoma? does it have tacoma emblems?

did it look similar to this

if it is indeed a 1990 pickup with the v6...beforewarned that these are a 3.0L engine and theyve been affectionately known as a 3.slow for many years

I was just curious to know if there were some normal faults that were common with that year Toyota Truck.

Its only advertisement was being parked in the for sale position in fornt of their house. It was in better shape than the one in your pic. The body is clean and the under carriage looks to be in good shape as well. While I was looking around the truck the young man that owned it walked to meet me and we started talking. I was asking why he was selling it and if it was a 6 or 4, I hadn't noticed the v6 emblem on the grille. Then it started raining so I got his number and said I would swing by tomorrow to look it over more. Then I got home and posted here to ask the guys that know more than me about this specific truck. If all seems well here and you guys give it good reviews I will throughly look it over tomorrow. I am mechanically inclined so I'll pass on the mechanics opinion unless there is something seriously amiss. I want the truck to drive back and forth to work without having to worry about dents and dings on my baby. Some of the docks and heliports that I leave my truck at either flood or can get just plain nasty during hurricane season so I don't mind the 4x4.

Well there was a Head Gasket issue.

So get the vin and see if the headgasket was done by the dealership.
If not see if it can be done.

Other than no balls and so so gas mileage they are ok....
You can tweak the clock spring in the air box, regap the plugs, port and polish the heads and exhuast. to help gain power.

unless it is real cheap i would pass and get a 2000 or newer.

I wasn't attacking you, I hope it did not sound as such. I was attempting to say that no such truck was made and if the guy is advertising it as such something is up.

I had a 1990 and a 1995 Toyota V6 4x4s 5psds - the trim lines were base, Deluxe (DLX) or SR5. The side stripes & seat material were the quickest way to tell, unless the previous owner changes out the stripes or sticker debadged. :D As stated, the biggest fault was the head gasket campaign which Toyota extended - I am sure you can google it. Mine were not affected. I put over 150k on each truck with no issues whatsoever. I did the timing belts around 100k because most of my driving was highway, kept up on regular maintenance, clean the throttle body, change fluids, fuel filter, brakes, etc. Other than idler arms and a diff breather that was it besides normal mnt. The V6 isn't known at all for its power, but it was dependable as a daily driver or off roader. Oh yeah, if it matters, both mine had A.D.D. or auto hubs, shift on the fly, some came with manual hubs. I knew many who swapped out the auto hubs, but mine were trouble free ....

It is raining cats and dogs here I'll call the owner and see how the weather is there and go take a peek at it, if he gives the ok.
