Now I that I think of it, this would be an excellent idea for a sub box. IMO, no normal size human being can sit back there anyways, so might as well make a nice flat platform for your pups and add some thump too.

Hey you would you be interested in posting the measurements? It looks great and my dog has the same issues with staying on the ledge. It would help me figure it out a lot quicker.

    Thanks

You know the shelf that is back there can come out. The cab is square at the bottom with just the center hump. Thats what I would do if I was putting a sub box in and didnt need the back seat. The back seat is not good for reg size people, but my sisters kids love to ride in my truck so I leave mine empty and intact. They love Tacomas too.

    No problem....

    Total width...51"
    Drivers side depth...12"
    Passenger side depth...11.5"
Center console notch was cut inward (towards back) 2" for a width of 7"
Center console notch edges 22" from either side
    Front leg length 7"
    Rear leg length 6.25"
Legs set at 12" from outer (left and right) edges of platform

I set the depth of the drivers side specifically for my seat adjustment, and cut the passenger to be a bit more shallow in case somebody in shotgun might need a bit more leg room than me (I'm 5'10"). The rear leg height is perfect, lines up very well with the existing rear deck. I might shave a quarter inch off the front legs as the platform has an ever so slight upward tilt toward front of vehicle.

Setting the legs @12" from the outer edges puts them perfectly centered in the middle of each floorboard, which will have greatest stability, in my opinion. However it does render the under-the-platform-storage basically useless as you have two legs right in the biggest potential storage space. I may modify this.

I also cut angles on the front outer edges just to allow the seatbelts to operate more freely.

You can see where i goofed here and had to attach a small "leveler" piece of wood on that front leg

And the end product...happy pooches. Although they weren't happy that I had them just get in the truck for a picture and then back to the yard:confused:

I had some 1X2's laying around so didn't have to buy them, bought a sheet of osb plywood for ~$9, and got the roll of carpet for $12 at OReillys Auto. Call it 25 bucks. They had many different colors of carpet, wish I would have gone with the grey color. The brown carpet matches the seats but I found out that the carpet color in the "oak" interior is more grey than brown.

I don't take my dog in the cab of my truck with me anywhere, but this did get me thinking. I could really use something similar to this, but more as a box with hinged lids. Basically it'd make extra storage cubbies for rarely used items that I want to keep in my truck and still allow me to stack stuff on top of it. Probably won't go through the effort, but it's a cool idea.
