I deal with this every day of my life man.

I do turn Key jobs. plumbing, electrical, siding, windows, decks. I can build a house from start to finish. All you have to do is pay me and then move in.

Do you have any idea how many years it takes to learn all of that stuff.

When people ask me to go lower on my price I simply say (Well, I guess I can do that if I drop the worranty)

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

People other then you have to eat too

If he fixed it properly then you got not a great deal, but a fair deal.

So are you saying that you would send your friend home to his wife and kids Hungry and then when what he fixed went wrong weather it was his fault of the manufacturers, you would expect him to come and fix it for free?

All Im saying is that If you are good at what you do you should get paid for it.

Yea $200 is a little high but it sounds more like a set rate. Every man that works with his hands has a (set rate) for how much he needs to get to do ANYTHING.

Mine is $150, sorry I wasnt the guy that did the work, I could of saved you $50

Glad you aren't my friend. If I was her friend I would have helped her out for free. Hell, if she was close I probably still would have helped her out.

I don't expect to pay my friends when they lend me a hand and I don't expect them to help me when I lend them one

I've helped several guys that aren't friends but guys I've met off forums. Since they live local they ask for my help and I've never charged. They bought lunch and we called it good. Changing a radiator hose is for kids. I could see if you bought the parts and gave him $40 cause he needed the money but $200 is ridiculous, especially for a friend rate.

Next time find some guys on the forum that are local to you and see if they'll help you. I'm sure lunch and a 12 pack will be more than enough of a payment. The way I see it, when I need help, someone will help me for free.

Friends don't charge friends. At the same time, if something a friend helped fix breaks, then it is not the fault of the friend for trying to help you. Beer and food are payment enough.

I disagree in comparing prices for the friends time vs shop. Im sure the shop would have done much faster then the friend. she should get a quote on time it would take the shop and hourly charge then compare.

you are missing the point. she did not hire a handy man to do the work, she received help from a friend. That qualifies for a no charge job, since in the future the friend may need assistance from her in return. i agree a meal/drink was in store here not a hefty payment.

I'm not saying your wrong about a guy working to make a buck ... but my friend owns his own lift shop. His truck has more mod's to it then i can list on all ten fingers an toes... it's worth more then a years rent at my house. (It's the truck shown below...) It's what he drove to my place to fix my truck. So I know he's not starving, and with all the other comments, I believe I was over charged. Next time, I'm buying beer and calling a bro to help me out. Any volunteers?

I'm from OC originally, and next time I need help with my truck, and I'm back in OC, I'll contact you. Thanks for the response.

For years, my brother, myself, and all our friends have helped on each others cars or trucks. It seems like once a week someone's getting helped around here. Not once have we EVER charged each other more than lunch or a few beers. That's how its supposed to be done. This guy's your friend, NOT someone you hired for the job. You don't do business with friends, period.

Damn miss you got ripped off. Whole thing shouldn't take more than 30 minutes and 50 bucks tops/total in parts. Upper radiator hose, lower radiator hose, hose clamps, and coolant.

I say you call this friend up and give him a piece of your mind.

Exactly, any help I give with friends, wether it's trucks, bikes, cars or lawn mowers; I give them the help for free just make them turn the wrench to know how.

Give a starving man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a starving man how to fish, he eats forever.

Especially if it's a girl with a pink taco... ;)
