whatcan my truck handle

what can my 1996 sx 2.7 liter actually handle i have been curious on what i can actually throw at her. i love mudding but i never know i hard i can ride my truck. i feel sometimes i have been holding back and missing out.

 

As far as what? Mud, rocks, towing, beer hauling? What are we discussing here?

This is kind of a broad question. The only way to find out your truck limitations are to go out and keep pushing the truck. Its hard to tell you the limitations of a truck.

 

Just drive it as hard as you want and when something breaks you know you have reached a point that you may want to start taking it a little bit easier on it. But this is a very broad questions because we cant just say after 4 miles of trailers you will start to have a werid vibration in your front end or something lol Just take it out and see what happens.

 

i took it easy to a point on my little truck but I ended up having to replace the upper and lower control arm assembly on the passenger side after a few months of mudding. Mudding = will be replacing parts sooner or later.

 

My 96 had 168k when it was turned over to another owner. It was put through it's paces over and over. Any time I came to an obstacle that after several attempts it could not overcome, I went another direction. Smelt transfer case heat plenty of times and still drove it home, always amazed me how smooth it was on the way home. After a few early mud trips I did stop doing this just because I hated cleaning it, took too long and way too many quarters. In my photo gallery there's a pic of my climbing what was called the water falls at the Devils Den in San Antonio, it was much steeper than it looks. No lockers and still made it over. My 96 had the 2.7 also, solid as a rock, the only thing I ever changed was the battery, one O2 sensor and of course the mods. A 96 that's maintained properly will surprise you and keep on going.

 

+1. Your 2.7 is designed to provide a decent amount of 'off the line' torque-so it can handle anything offroad that the V6's and V8's can. You will lose in a race with them, but that motor can drag that truck straight up a wall if it gets enough traction

 

Personally, I think the mud is a lot harder on the truck than anything. You'll never really get ALL the mud back off. It get's into F'n everything, seals, intake, brakes.....mud can be fun, but you sure pay the price!
