i don't think there's a top speed.....but you should really be needing it anywhere that you can go that fast

well i guess maybe a snowy highway but even still you're not going to be driving over 80km/h anyways

You can engage 4lo on the fly with the first generations?

For 4 wheel hi the system will beep at you if your are going too fast, for low I can usually shift at 10-15mph with ease

This is not correct. To engage 4Lo the tranny has to be in neutral and the vehicle must be stopped.

That makes sense. Looking back the post was referring to top speed once engaged.

You dont have to be stopped, just going really slow. I believe the little card on my visor says 5mph or less and in neutral.

^ yah it does say that but it seems like i always get a grind if im not fully stopped in neutral. i dont even try to engage it in when rolling anymore.

to help answer ur question OP, ive driven on the highway in 4hi when the roads are snow covered or when theres black ice. sometimes up to speeds of close to 100kmh but i never engage it unless under going 80.

Most of the time when there is a considerable amount of snow on the ground I drive around in 4 HI and usually dont go over 65 when on the highway. Havent had a problem yet so far.

In low, I am never out of 2nd gear max. I only use it as a "grab all" gear when I am stuck or pulling someone out and dont want to trash the clutch.
