2.4 Vers 2.7 Question
Yes I have A.D.D you willl see it below. Sorry if the post comes out wrong.
Ok I have a 2.4. and I feel the 2.7 has to be better... Where is the .3 Liters coming from? Is it head? or the Block or the Pistions? Can you make a 2.4L bigger or is it maxed out. Thank goodness I am not an off roader, I just use the truck to go and from work or for Race track events. Taking people around. like 6 to 8 people in the bed. But I was wonding if I can do a few thing to make my 2.4 better. My Machainc tells me the intake manifold has a leak. and I am loosing out on MPG. So Soon i will be taking off the Intake manifold to replace the Gasket. Would this be a good time to have it ported and polished? Is there a Gasket Spacer that might help out. I was thinking a Spacer that would help Preven heat transfer from the head to the intake to keep the Air cooler and dencer for a possible more powerful bang. Please give me any input... |

As best I recall the 2.7 is stroked and has balance shafts. You can do the porting yourself although I am unsure of the gains given the work. Some have insulated the entire intake to address the radiant heat issue. But, a larger, I assume cork, gasket may increase the likelyhood of another leak; you might experiment to see if does make a difference with conducted heat. For more power the easiest mod is to reduce tire diameter and use a less aggressive tread; decrease the unsprung weight.

there's not enough power differance to really do the swap from 2.4 to 2.7 if your going to take that kind of time just go ahead and put in the 3.4! my experience with the 2.4's as far as power upgrades are.....cold air intake, throttle body spacer, jet chip (helps some), header, and electric fans these are the easiest upgrades unless you want to start getttin internal with it! your looking at about a 50hp boost with all of these things done...possibly more!

50hp boost.. doubt it, the throttle body spacer and jetchip are both useless mods with no dyno proven results.

Ok thaks guys.
I researched the Jet Chip, It might give 5 to 15, that is not proven yet and $550 last I check. The Throttle body spacer get mixxed reviews with no Dyno results. Now the Fans might give me what I need, plus the truck over heat do to the Fan Clutch not holding good enough now. But at $400 for the new Fan set up, it will be intersting to find the money for that. But thank you for the pointer, this is what I wanted to know. now it is in 1 place. Good to know the 2.4 is not the worste thing in the world. i thas been good to me for about 10 years now. i think it will last another 40 years as is.... |
