My 1998 TRD 3.4L is making a weird noise sometimes from the interior Heater Blower Motor behind the glove box. It is blowing fine but the noise is about to drive me crazy. Does anyone know what it might be and how to fix it?

    Thanks!

mine makes a loud noise when it is turned on but it blows fine, so i took it off and there is absolutely nothing stuck in the fan. the rattling noise is coming from the electric motor itself, anyone got input on what that might be?

Mine makes a weird noise too... I would describe it as a "computery" noise. I don't know how to really describe it but it sounds like an old tower computer running... maybe the fans in the computer made the noise, I'm not sure, but it sounds like my truck. Does yours make a similar noise?

We are probably talking about the same type of noise.

I associate my noise with a speaker that has a loose wire and their is a slight static. Or a radio with a lot of static with the volume turned low.

did you ever put a playing card in the spokes on your bike when you were a kid? that's what it reminds me of. If the blower is on hi it clicks faster if its on low it clicks slower

Mine is a constant "whirr" as soon as the blower turns on. It usually gets drowned out by the rushing air by the time it's on high.

God i love these noise description threads

i honestly think my noise is coming from the electric motor, like a dried up bearing or something? does anyone know how to take the damn thing apart?

The heater has just started making noise on our 98 Tacoma and it sounds like a bad bearing. Do you have to replace the whole fan or can you pull it off and grease the bearings?

Mine sounded like a cricket and would come and go. Now it makes no annoying sound, but only works on low. If I try turning it to high the whole dash shudders. Hopefully I can get in there and fix it myself.

As mentioned earlier, my fan has only been working on low/med-low for some time now. I opened things up today to see if I could find the problem...
