E-locker in rain

I searched-I cant find anything. Any of you with the diff locker use it in the rain? In the 10 years of this truck's life I only activated it one time, just to see what it was like. I personally didn't dig it too much because of the odd sounds the tires made on a turn. Is it bad to use it on wet pavement?
So my questions are-
1-is it advisable to use the locker on wet pavement?
2-is it advisable to run the locker now and then for maintainance of its function?
3-are there any of you actually using it on wet road and how's it working for you?

I imagine it would give me added traction no? but I don't want to tear it up either.

1) no.
2) might not hurt, but mine works fine after not being used AT ALL by my dad (that's 100,000 miles)
3) probably not, drive slow

It's great for offroad situations and being stuck and what not, but I don't see much benefit of running a locker for wet conditions or even snowy conditions. Something tells me the tires would just spin out due to the lack of traction already provided by a wet road. Turning both at the same rate would force the rear axle too much. I would imagine most people use theres for mud, crawling, and stucks. I personally have only used mine in the mud. Maybe some other people can share their opinions

 

DO NOT...NOT...use lockers on road in snow. That shit is downright dangerous.

Edit: Maybe if you're stuck, but as soon as you get moving, locker goes off. And FFS, don't use it in traffic.

Maybe a dumb question, but can you use the rear diff locker in mud or loose dirt at any speed?

 

i used my lock-rite locker in the snow, no problems

Ist't there a sticker on the door about when (and only when) the rear locker should be used? All three of my Tacos had the same sticker ('01, '05, '10)...
Not to mention the owner's manual.

It is for Emergency use only to get unstuck or through or up a normally impassable road, without it. 5 mph MAX. and turn it off once past the problem area... Steering may be difficult when locked... Remember, when you turn, the two tires on the axle must rotate at DIFFERENT rates (why there is a differential there). When both tires are LOCKED together.. they can't do this!

 

Right.. and you shouldn't red line the engine before shifting either... Because you can doesn't mean you should.

No difference... 2WD or 4WD, the rear locker only locks the rear!

Don't you have the warning sticker on the driver's side door, just below the window... or an owner's manual?

Be careful, and turn it off before you want to make a turn!

 

Ya its on the door and owners manual. But they are both worded different. I just dont wanna blow up my diff. if I'm off roading over 10mph.

 

True. I know that eaton has a electronic locker so i cant imagine them selling a locker that will blow up on you. Maybe i'll just have to call them up.
