so i posted a thread about good mudding excuses and it went off topic and got a little heated

so i am curious to know where all of you taco owners stand on this

i dont mud or wheel often(just dont have the time or places to do so), but when i do......i enjoy both. both are fun, but i kinda like wheeling a bit more. iif there was a poll to this thread, i'd pick both!:)

Who cares what other people like to do....

If you like the mud - then go do it and enjoy yourself! You don't have to justify why you like the mud or why anyone else doesn't.

Just don't go wheelin alone. Take a buddy with another vehicle. If you get stuck - you have another vehicle to get you home (or yank your ass out).

Back when I had my 96 tacoma - I liked the mud. It was fun!! After a few years of mud - bearings start wearing (alternator bearings, a/c idler bearings, compressor bearings, etc). That's why I personally don't do mud anymore. It's hard on the mechanicals. I do mostly rocks (with my jeep).

Every once in a while I'll dive into a mud hole - but - not often. I'm old and it's takes too much effort to clean all that mud off.

Personally, I dont wheel my Tacoma in mud, or my Dodge for that matter. I grew tired of replaceing axel seals, and the mud out where I live eats them for breakfast. Personally, I really dont care what I wheel on, I like finding new spots and checking the scenery. I dont "trail blaze", but I try to go where I havent been before. :)

Since I live in WA state, there is no shortage of mud here. That is a fact of life. But, that said I don't go into it WOT and cause trail damage intentionally. Also since I am not a Taco owner, I guess that I will just watch where this goes?

I really like to wheel on rocks or mud, but the only problem with mud is that it's really hard to clean up afterwards! I mean, if I had a "trail rig" I would go mudding all the time, but I only have one truck & it's a daily driver so I don't go flying in mud that often. The few times I have gotten muddy wheeling around through the mud & snow is lots of fun though!!:D

I say if you enjoy muddin then go for it. The only complaint I could raise against it is if you were mudding on private property. Around here there are lots of places that are public to do some mudding. Personally I don't know why some people *cough Seafarinman *cough feel the need to make someone feel self concious about a hobby. I don't mud but take my motorcyles off roadin. As long as it is done legally then there can or rather should not be any complaints.

if youre going to go muddin...id suggest doing it on private property and ONLY with the owners consent...if youre going to tear up the environment by cutting doughnuts and slinging mud and water all over the place...at least do it where the tree huggers cant get ya

bad trail use is whats causing trail closures such as tellico and paragon adventure park...

now...if youre calling splashing thru some puddles that are on an already well defined/cut/legal trail muddin...then...well...feel free to go play...but that aint muddin ;)

I don't look at mudding as a way to tear up trails. It is all in good fun. I go mudding all the time, considering I am 16 and its what we do. It really is fun if you go do it. However it is hard on your truck.

That is why I said "whatever" in my first post. If that is what you want to do, more power to you. I did it, and hated the cleanup (mud was falling off the truck still 6 months later!) OLD PICS!! 83761136eXktyI_ph_f02b33b08ab071ede18a14d2b100f5d206dd97b9.jpg

Well said Janster! I've only just recently come to realize the Royal PITA that mud becomes long after the fun is over. I say "fun", because mud is a hoot, but, it takes it's toll. I've been working, gradually, at correcting all the problems mud has caused. Last week, I was chipping away 5mo old mud from the undersides. You never get rid of all the mud. It haunts you later down the road.

    Amen!!

I think everyone dabbled A LOT in the mud when they first started offroading. It's a requirement. You can't move on in this offoading evolutionary path unless you've dabbled yourself in the nastiness!

That is, unless you live in an area that doesn't have much rain/mud. I feel sad for those folks who can't experience it atleast once.

I can remember yanking countless rigs outta mud. Pulling plugs and reviving countless others.....and I'll never forget leaving my window open and getting mud on my face!!
